The Second Lion War -- Fencer's project

K, the project I'm working on now is "The Second Lion War". My friends seem to like the idea and it's moving at a steady clip. Just afraid I won't have enough space for it -- I am not a fan of short RPGS.

    ---------------------------------------------

In a land filled with treachary and murder, no one can see the dark forces moving that would destroy them all. Only a band of four adventurers can stop the coming onslaught and save the world from a travesty beyond imagination...

"...weilding the Sword of the Ancients, One will come...
    ...to be our saviour...
    ...or our executioner..."

    The Second Lion War

Anyway, here is the synopsis. The Main character, Varrick, an orphan of The Great Lion War (hence the game's title) is the Templar of Lord Telra. A Templar is the avatar of the noble's might, the noble's will in one person. You, as Varrick, do deeds to further Telra's plan of a mighty empire, something he was not able to accomplish during The Great Lion War. However, you soon discover Telra's plans are not so noble, as you begin to see your deeds as what they truely are -- acts of evil.

You soon turn on your former master and must struggle against time to repair the damage you alone have wreaked upon the kingdom, before all is lost and the world falls into the clutches of Telra, the Lord of Shadows...

    --Cast of Characters--

Varrick: Found as a child by Lord Telra, he grew to be a powerful, but brash Templar, who only wants to have his name be known throughout the world, just like his hero, Ranjit, the Dragon-Sealer.

Ranjit: Hero of the first age. He sealed away the powers of the Dragons that threatened all of existence. Long dead.

Lael: Childhood friend of Varrick, a servant at the Telra castle. Was taken in by Telra since she was found with Tyrone. Has a strong heart to do good, and it pains her to see her beloved Varrick loose his path to darkness.

Chuugo: Ordinator of Telra. Very arrogant, and has always coveted Varrick's status as Templar. His fighting skills are unparralleled, and has access to devastating spells.

Alaster: A smooth talking, booze drinkin', womanizing theif who has a penchant for magic. Has little basis and wanders from place to place, looking for the finest ale and the best women. (Think Ronfar from Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, but less redeeming qualities.)

Tyronica: Templar of Lord Doge (Pronounced Doh'-gze, not dog). A strong willed woman who's knowlege of battle and tactic surpasses others, but has little trust of anyone outside of her kingdom.

Lord Telra: The Lord of the Black Onyx, Telra seeks to take all of the world for his own kingdom.

King Roland: High King of the land, the True King who came back and ended the Great Lion War by showing his lineage to the Great Throne.

    ---------------------------------------

It's turning out to be a very dark RPG. Though I don't want to sound Goth, it isn't a very happy place to be, and I love it. Castle Telra has gallows all over, plus it's always storming out, and has depressing background music.

Now that I'm just ranting, I'll post things later on it, when I get my thinking straight again.

Sounds like an interesting story line.

Hate to break this to you...
But the Second (or first, I forget) Lion War was the main plot of Final Fantasy Tactics.
So, you may want to consider a name change.
Still, nice idea! Although, for the character of Alaster, if he's a "good guy" you may want to niceify him a bit: Although I'm sure you're trying to avoid a "bad dude with a heart of gold" or a robin hood-esque figure, don't make him an terrible person unless there is a very real reason to have him this way.
      Good luck!

The Second Lion War was the only thing I could think of that wasn't retarded, and too late did I realize my folly to go back and fix every single line of text about it, but what the hell. Not like Squaresoft can sue me (Square Enix, sorry)-- I'm not selling it, therefore they do not recieve royalties for the idea. How do you think Fan fics work, anyway? I love Tactics... I just can't call it anything else! ^_^'

Alaster doesn't stay that way, but I can't reveal my plot devices. Besides, you work for the bay guy when you being, and Alaster needs cash to buy beer (yes, you can buy alcohol) and you need a magician... Think Louie the Rune Soldier and Ronfar cross, but with less fistfighting and no healing magic. And no dice. I can't reveal it all, otherwise it would be pointless to play. Trust me, things move along at a nice clip.

        Thank, I'm always welcoming advice.

No, it's not about Square suing you. It's about people (myself included) thinking you're making an FFT related game.

Re: The Second Lion War -- Fencer's project

I am taking a lot of inspiration for Tactics (The game is split up into "Chapters", with exerpts from historic texts at the begginning and end of them from the book "Heros of the Second Age", Varrick's skills follow the "Heavenly Knight" class skills), plus I have in game references to other games, such as Street Fighter.

Alaster is a complicated character, and there's more to him than meets the mind, as well as other characters. I like twisting things on my readers/players.
