My thoughts on the Pavilion at present.

I just read the whole WilliamKirk drama thing in the Site Info and Suggestions board, and seeing as how that topic died a week ago, I just wanted to throw in my two cents about how the Pav is running, from a guy who hasn't played or made an RPG Maker game in years:

I think Valk is doing a tremendous job, and running a site such as this has to be much harder than anyone who hasn't run a site would think. I know that Valk and I haven't always seen eye to eye on certain things(most notably the whole Bob thing and that goofy church topic I made a long while back), but most, if not all, the things he does here are what's best for the Pav.

I enjoy coming here and posting my thoughts and ruminations and sharing opinions with others. To some it may seem sad or loser-ish, but, being honest here, talking(or whatever it is that we do here) to everyone here(at least the ones who use proper grammar ) is often the highlight of my day.

I'd like to say thank you to Kire for creating this site, to Valk for keeping it going and helping it to thrive, and lastly to everyone here. I consider you all to be friends of mine. Since coming here(at the EZ-boards, anyway) in the summer of 2001, You have all made me laugh and make my day just a little bit better.

(God, this sounds like I'm leaving or something!)

One of my close friends in real life wanted to see some of my SH stuff, so I gave him a link to the Bush forum in an e-mail. He play-tested the Bush game a long time ago, but he really doesn't know anything about the RPGmaker series or this community.

While he was here, he viewed other topics and forums, and said that he was surprised. He was impressed by the fact that everyone seemed alright and fairly cool with eachother, and said that we talked about some interesting stuff.

    Huzzah for the Pavilion.

Thanks. It's always nice hearing that people approve of what I'm doing here. The people who have a problem with the pavilion are those that dont understand it. A lot of people joke around here, which some overly-sensitive people take as harassment (like william's tirade against ryner). This stuff happens in every day life, and every forum on the internet. why some people think we should be an exception is beyond me.

Despite people like william (and nash, who joined william in demanding doan's RPGM website start a war with the pavilion, before being shut up by doan himself) saying otherwise, I think the pavilion IS a great place for fans of the RPG Maker series, and those who have no interest in it at all. it speaks volumes about this place when half the people in the general discussion areas came just to hang out, and people who lost interest in RPG Maker years ago are still here. If it was as terrible as some make it out to be, people would be leaving left and right and we wouldnt have gotten over 850 registered users in the space of a year.

I think it's great we're probably the sole cause RM2, RM3 and more than likely Mark talked Enterbrain into releasing RMXP for English Gamers.

Other than my complete hatred of my JP Copy of RMXP, this community is A+.

I think valk is a lamb murdering tyrant and the community is all perverts and homsexuals.

          Long live the pavilion! Ha.

Yeah, I like talking to you guys more than the friends I have that I meet in person. Then again, none of you are ex-girlfriends who won't let me just go my own way, none of you (Within the core "group" that posts here) do nothing but complain about everyone and everything under the sun. None of you have had your lives completely taken over by a significant other (I guess you wouldn't post here if you were, anyway, but...). Few of you are computer-nerds who don't know what you're talking about. And I don't think there's anyone here who behaves more like a house cat than a human being.

Plus, I still have to give Valk credit on doing away with the whiny "Where's my game?!?" crowd with the submission thing.

This is without a doubt the all-around best forum/message board I've seen on the internet lately. And compared to other VIDEO GAME related boards, it's unreal. A healthy mix of intelligent and frivolous topics, people of all ages and types getting along, and surprisingly little trouble. And the Playground has opened up a level of free expression you seldom see anywhere this public. I like the way Valk and most of the mods operate. They give out warnings when they feel it's necessary, admit mistakes when they make them and apologize (they're only human), and only ban people who are purposely bringing down the enjoyment of the site. It's my favorite place on the whole internets.

I think that the pavilion should branch out to other videogame content besides just Rpg Maker. I'm sure there are many people who would be willing to do reviews and previews and strategy guide stuff for other games. Perhaps even do comics and stuff.

There's enough talent and personality among the posters that I think we could something similar to what penny-arcade has done with transcending into something more than just a webcomic. Who knows, maybe someday we could have official pavilion representation at E3.

I know I could contribute by doing a point counterpoint thing with Lacroix.

Thats the thing I'm happiest about adding to the pavilion. anyone who was here in the old days knows just how bad the "Where's my game?!?" problem was. people would complain every single day. now, they're in charge of when their game is available. even if I'm slow about adding it to the site, it's still available through the submission forum until I do.

                      I remember that.

I love this site, and come here every day. You can always find help with any problem and just have a fun time.

                        BEST. MESSAGE BOARD/WEBSITE. EVER.

I remember back then. People all the time did ask that question.
The way Valk has this place running is superb! I must say, with my journey through the internet for a good place to hang out and learn new things, this place is the bees knees.

The thing I love best about the Pavilion is the sheer intellegence of everyone here. Every other discusssion/forum site I've ever been to has been polluted with complete assholes who just feel like the only way that they can feel good is by making others feel bad. If there were any people like that here, (and I'm sure there have been in the past) Valk would deal with them. Valkysas is the greatest. The Pavilion is the greatest. Long live the Pavilion!

I'm fairly new to the pavilion, but the time I've been here has been great. As everyone has mentioned, no idiots.
Also, Valk and the rest of the staff do a damn fine job.
