    Make way, Noob coming through...!

Allright people I have a few ( yeah right ) questions I'd want to ask, so please excuse my ignorance.

First of all, I got Rpg Maker 3 for christmas-well, actually it's my bro's but he never uses it, so it is as good as mine ,I got radiata Stories-and I have to say that I like the "game" very much. Although it has its limitations, you can still make good things out of this. ok, now to the point, noob queestion #1:

    1. I made a dungeon, but something occured to me. At the far end of the map, left corner, I made a mountain-All stained in red and looks really cool-but the main objective of that mountain was for it to be some kind of tunnel to take me to Northern Latvia-I made a new map with the mountain at the lower left corner of the map-Now here come my questions. To make the mountain look like a tunnel, I put the dungeon on both ends of the mountain, and put a warp at the very end of the dungeon, I did it like a QA branch so you have the choice to warp, or "exit" the dungeon, Now I was wondering if there is another way to do this without a warp, like say for instance, another Door leading straight out to the next field. Also, whenm I enter the dungeon from the other side, Northern Latvia, My character is placed autimatically at the very start of the dungeon, leading to Southern Latvia. Although this is highly convenient, it just doesn't look right, I would like for the main character to appear at the end of the dungeon, the warp that is, so it can feel more realistic, any help on the matter would be highly appreciated.

--- Also, before I go on, I thought you guys ought to know something, I do not understand variables or modes at all, so much that i don't even know the difference between them, Told ya, the biggest nOOb alive. I have read the instruction booklet so many times, that I guess i memorized allready. I know that making a game without variables would be sloppy work, and I don't want that. My point is that I thought I could evade using these variables and modes, but I was wrong, so here comes my 2nd queston:

Before I keep on going, I think it's necessary to fill you in on my story. To, begin with, I don't have a complete story, that is, I got an idea of what I want to make, but only bits and pieces, and it is rather vague ( and cliched too.... ) The main character-a young orphan named Albion-wants to join the Midel Knights, to help them win the war, and to become like the hero he admires, which was said to have been in such knights at a certain point. ( also I forgot to mention, The energy that serves the planet for all its purposes was called the Inherth-something like mana or lifestream if you know what I mean- and many centuries ago, There was a war between the two continents of the world, Latvia and Styx- I plan the character to go to styx sometime in the game, by a warp that is-because both continents were running out of that primitive energy source, and only one could stay "alive", and for that, they needed to gather all the energy in one continent. So, as to be expected, Latvia wins the war, well not really because Styx won too...How is this possible you may ask?, well here's when the legendary knight comes in place. he was said to have stood in the middle of the battleground, with its elegantly shinning armor and royal horse, and have held a shinnig orb high in the air, and burried it on the ground, this cause all the trees to grow leaves back again, the skies turned blue, the earth to its natural state. But then, the uncanny knight left as mysteriously as he had appeared and left the two armies standing there-or what was left of them-admiring the great miracle that had just happened. A new energy has replaced the Inherth, which was named after the knight, but nobody really knows if that was his real name, or even if he really ever existed, some say he was knight at the Midel Castle a long time ago, but no such record was found, so anyway, the people lived happily for some decades, enjoyng of the good new uses this new energy-the Nephtis-which was founf to be far superior to the Inherth, in many other fields that could be mentioned, healing items where invented for common people use, and weapons were now powered by Nephtis. The two continents-or the two "worlds" as people call it in my game-had a good relationship for many years, but one day, a war broke out again. This time, it wasn't a war between the worlds, but something more of like a civil war. In latvia, there are two kingdoms which are the most inportant, bigger, and powerful Kingdoms-in Latvia that is-Midel and Nibel. As to be expected, The Nibelian Kingdom got greedy and demanded more Nephtis than what they were allowed to use, since the kings decided to limit their uses since they did not want something like the "War of the worlds" to happen again. however, Midel refused, and this lead to some fighting, and eventually, a war. The Nibelian army is more powerful, and bigger too, than the Midelian army, so they are currently loosing the war, now here is when albion comes up, he wants to join the knights to help save his kingdom, and become like Nephtis before him, a national hero.) so, one daym he decides to join the knights and goes to talk to the king ( I made this an event at the very beginnig of the game so you can't miss it, again, i'm avoiding variables).
So, he goes up to the King, and ..........................when he finally accepts him, he assigns him a tutor, more stupid than albion himself, to take him to the Vextel institute to take his admission tests. Now after 1:00 woth of typing comes my question: nOOb question #2!

    2. When I enter the town( vextel institute), i made i girl on the entrance so you can't miss her, when you talk to her, she says that she hasn't seen many people around lately, and babbles something about him not being able to get in the knights since they only accept the best. Then, I made a QA branch asking if he still intended to join, and if you select no, she tells you something about being a chicken and the conversation ends, but if you select yes, she tells him that if by some miracle he is accepted, he should come and see her, to fight him. here, I made jus another QA branch and if you select no, she tells him he's a looser, and if you select yes ( which you should ), she tells him to bring the certificate as proof of admitance. Now for the question, this is where i figured out i couldn't avoid using mode and variables anymore so I'm asking, how do you do for her to say something different ( like "hey haven't you passed the tests yet?" ) when he leaves, and how do you do for her to fight him ONLY if he has the certificate? ( if he wins, i plan her to join the party ), if you need me to clarify something, i'll post the exact codes I typed in the game.

    nOOb question #3!

    3. after she joins the party ( totally optional ), albion should have passed the entrance exam, he is prompted to go see the king. How do I make this event to appear right after you exit the town, but only if you have the certificate?, like let's say I place the event outside of the city, but it will not "run" until he has that certain item?, i'm telling i'm even newbier when it comes to variables, even though i had some experience with Rpg make xp...

    Last nOOb question!!!

    4. this is a bit difficult, for me that is. How do you do for the king to say something diferent after he has already told albion to go to the Vextel intitute and after Kazuke- his tutor-forcefully joins the party? ( something like "Have you gone to the Vextel instutute yet young lad?" ) but after he acomplishes his tasks, for him to say something different when he has the certificate ( something like " I knew you could make it, as from today, you are one of the Midel knights!" ) After this I think I can figure out the rest.

Well this are more or less my questions( for now), so if somebody whos nice enough to answer to my lenghty post, can provide me solutions to my problems, i would really appreciate it. remember, everybody has been a noob at some point of their lives.......AND I DON'T WANT TO STAY A NOOB FOREVER!!!!!!!

Edit= Can you have a world map on the field? ( i know the answer will be no, but it's worth asking...) I guess this one should be called...Stupid question #5!

Re: Make way, Noob coming through...!

That was freaking lot of story... all of which could have been left out of the question. Anyway I'm going to answer a few of you questions because it doesn't appear that anyone else has. (I can see why they wouldn't wan't to)

1- I haven't messed with this, someone else will have to answer it.

2- Yeah on two... that's written kind of confusing... but you just need to add another mode. Have it change to that mode when she's done talking. Add another mode and have her change to that mode when you get your certificate. Now you just need to insert the text and junk in your modes.

3- Ok... I don't really use variable that often... in fact I like never use them... but I think i know how to use them enough to tell you how to do this. Put an invisible auto event outside of town with two modes. Leave your first mode empty. When your character gets the item have it change the mode on the invisible event to two. Put your story junk in the mode two...
(BTW- this could also be done with variables... but much the same way)

4- The King thing just involves simple modes... um yeah... so king says one thing blah... then it changes to mode 2... where he says something else.
Once you get certificate... whenever that is. Have the event code change king to mode 3. In mode three you can have the king say something like" hooray another gimpy knight for my army" or something of your choosing.

5- As for question 5... it makes no freaking sense to me.

PS- I'm actually a noob myself... I got the game for christmas as well... It's been pretty easy for me- but I'm glad to help others. Sooooo, tell me if this helps!

      1. No, you have to use warps from what I have done.

      5. The field is the map.

Have fun! Oh and almost every noob that registeres says something about the ignorance because they are just learning. Alot of people are like that so I don't think it is necissarily stupidity. They just don't seem to pick things up as fast as others.

Re: Make way, Noob coming through...!

        1. Actually you can do this without warps. Make a dungeon, and have the entrance on one map. At the end of the dungeon, place a secret door (in the special parts section.) On the other map, place a "secret door" graphic event. Then go into the dungeon editor and in one of the settings pages, there's a place where you can select a secret door. Select the one you placed on the other map (which should be the only one available), and it will link it to the other end of the dungeon. Now you have a dungeon you can enter from one field, and exit to another.

Re: Make way, Noob coming through...!

Hooray, I finally got answers, now let me clarify things.

For question number 5, I meant that if I could have a little map on the screen ( like in the upper left )of the field I'm currently walking on ( that shows your position in the map ), kind of like every rpg...get it now?, but never mind that, I know it's impossible.

And Dark Sentry, that really helps. Although I guess I did something somewhat similar to that, I guess I'll just have to check what I did, maybe something went wrong.

Also, JojoEscapedMonkey, I'll try that about the modes, although I'm not exactly sure how to change the current mode to another, I think I got an idea, might have seen the command somewhere...

Thanks everybody for replying, I really appreciate it. I hope I learn more to help people in the future!

Re: Make way, Noob coming through...!

As for number 5, having a minimap showing somewhere in the screen is, unfortunately, impossible. You'll have to drive around this giving the characters some details on localization, and using the compass to found their way.

Like: "The Water Cave is somewhere to the northeast". Then the player has to look for it.

You could also have a really high (255 height) square of land which the player warps to in order to look down onto the field below, giving a bird's eye view of the whole field. It would at least give the player an idea of the map. I've done this is my game, and it works pretty well. Oh I just thought of something. You could have a really high piece of land created in v-mode and then move a tower graphic over it, and warp your player to the piece of land, so it would look like the player was standing on top of the tower when overlooking the land below. Oh, I've got to try that one when I get home.

Cool thanks!, I guess I'll have to try those!, but what I did in my game was something rather simple. I set the level of the land to be totally flat( you know, no muntains or anything in the middle of the map ), so the player can easily view all the cities that are in the whole world map, but forget about that, i'm going to try some of those...

                    Guys I got another question.
                    nOOb question #6
Can you have 99 potions in one slot?. I was playtesting my game, and I noticed I had potions, but they all were in different slots, wasting item space. So I wanted to have all those potions, but occupying only one slot. If this can't be done, then I'm really screwed...

                    Yet another question
                    nOOb question #7

What happens when the monsters on the filed get to weak to the point you can't level up any more, say My character is level 20 and the monsters are level 3, how can you change the monster parties to stronger ones, say, when something in the story happens?

                      You can't.

But you can create duplicate areas with different monsters.

That's the only way I know. It wastes a ton of memory, but it works.+

                      Sorry.

Re: Make way, Noob coming through...!

I'm the biggest nOOb actually. I don't know from nothing about this thing. In fact I had to contact the guy in charge of this site to ask him how the blazes you form a party so I could play test the stupid thing.

I have taught myself simple things. Like making people and items and writing a prologue and making it so it plays when you start the game, but that's about all I know and/or can figure out.

The big question on my mind right now is this. How the hell do you make several stories blend into each other like at the beginning of the demo game when you move forward and touch those 4 question marks which are Openings 1-4 and HOW do you make those vanish so it doesn't happen over and over and over again. Also how do you make it so that you can initiate the story by talking to someone instead of touching those red question marks?

Yea, I know. That's ALOT of stuff to answear, but like I said. I don't know from nothing on how to do this stuff.

P.S. I don't have the instruction booklet as the game is rented from Gamefly

Oh, you dont have the instructions? they're up for download at www.rpgmmag.com, if I recall correctly. that should be a big help.

Is it just me or is that print so small it'll cause eye strain to even attempt to read it?

I tried magnifying it and it blurs, so those images of the manual aren't very good. <sigh>
