Ziggy Stardust and the Dust from The Stars

    Stardust returns to earth tomorrow!

    This is a big deal.

It's a space probe bringing back particles from a comet's tail (and some from the "Solar Wind").

It can be watched on live webcam here:

    http://stardust.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/webcam.html

The last one crashed when it's parachute failed, so let's hope this one makes it.

I guess the David Bowie reference was a little off topic.

    Oops.

    Peace.

    Here's a better link:

    That's NASA TV.

Gotta go back to it, they got a signal but no radar confirmation.

I totaly thought this topic would be about David Bowie.

    Now I'm all disapointed.

Yup. Probably it'll turn out that they brought a horrific space-plague that the human race has no immunity to and as a result we get dead.

Maybe that's why the first one didn't work right. It wasn't meant to be the end of the world then. But now it could be. Oh well bring it on. I am ready.

edit: Maybe that is why the aliens didn't come on the first of January like expected. They decided to hide in the stardust. I am ready for that to. Bring it on ugly alien peoples. Or if they are not ugly still bring it on.

Or better yet, undead. Bring on the space plague!

I still think it will crash like the last one. I hope not. But I have my doubts that they really fixed the problem that occured with the last one.

The link you made to the movie, and David Bowie's song, is a for sure omen, that it will bring good luck.

                      It's a' happening REAL SOON!!

I'm gonna go make a pot of coffee and turn on the telly (I think it'll be better than the webcam feed).

                      Enjoy...

I put that in the top link too by accident.

No time for an extra edit...

                      OK, they got it!

Due to the overwhelming response to this topic, here's how they did it:

They got this crap called Aerogel, which is basically Glass Foam. It's the lightest solid known to man.

                      It looks like this:

They set it up in collectors what look like this:

When Comet Poop hits the array it gets stuck, like this:

                      Any questions?

Oh, you meant questions related to the topic. Well in that case...

Could this Aerogel have any future personal lubricant applications (i.e. Astrogel)? It could revolutionize the porn industry.

Trying to be serious here. I think that the whole Aerogel thing is pretty cool. Can't wait to see what they use it for.
