    Serenity RPG

Okay, I am on a Serenity/Firefly kick right now, and my boyfriend bought me a Serenity RPG book for Christmas. What I am curious about is how many people out in the real world have heard of this or even own the book? I guess I'm also looking for Serenity fans out there as well, maybe to give a few hints and tips to someone who has never DMed before, and wants to learn with this campain setting.

And cookies for anyone with this book/game who lives in Dayton, Ohio. I will give 'em to you personally.

A Serenity RPG? Now that's a cool concept. Loved the movie. Saw it thrice. That's something when you get to know that I don't watch movies a lot, and when I do, watching more than once is a rarity. Too bad I haven't been able to get my hands on Firefly. I hear it's pretty good.

I Googled for it and found the URL: http://www.serenityrpg.com (duh) I like tabletop RPGs. It's been ages ever since I was in a group. I didn't play a lot though.

I wonder if you can talk to me (briefly) about this RPG; give me an idea of how it works. Would you recommend this book? Hopefully I can round up a group of maniacs in order to play this.

And now, all we need is: <hint><hint><hint>Serenity: The RPG-Maked RPG</hint></hint></hint> That'd be awesome.

Is it D20 system? Because then I HAVE to have it. Even if it isn't, let me know how it seems to play.

I may never play a futuristic intergalactic adventure, but that can't stop me from buying the books.

Edit: I just took a look on www.frpgames.com. There's supposed to be a couple more books coming out next month.

Serenity's pretty sweet. I flipped throug that Visual Companion book. The set and costume design for Inara is so purdy.

Me and my boyfriend have been hoping for a computer gamed based on this. It's actually NOT a d20 system, it's more like a d2, d4, d6, d8, d12. From what it looks like, it's kinda based on a Vampire like system, but it's not. If you have ever played Seven Seas, that's really what it's more like. Instead of assigning point values to your stats/skills, you assign die types, and instead of merits/bad thingies in Vampire, you have Complications and Assets. Your character building is based on what you want as a character concept rather then a plain class and uses point values, and the actual roleplaying is exactly that ROLEplaying. There is combat rules, but I haven't read that far ahead to mess with it. The book is actually masterfully discriptive without giving away anything from the series. (kinda, it does refer back to things that have happened in the episode.) The xp is based more on "Plot Points" which you gain for good roleplaying.

In my game, I am requiring people to have at least One MAJOR complication, a written up background/personality, and an image of their character to start off, and their character concept. For example, an NPC character I am creating is a paralized girl with tramatic flashes that have caused her to go mute due to a reaver attack, she has alot of low attacks, but she is a killer behind the wheel. I really like the mechanics, I just still have to learn them.

I almost wouldn't consider this a future, interglactic RPG in the main sense, it's simply more like a western with spaceships and Chinese.

            More concisely, it's Firefly.

It sounds interesting. You'll have to let us know how smoothly it runs, especially in combat (90% of the smothness in actual ROLEplaying is how good your DM is).

*chuckles* that DM would be me. I really don't like DMing, simply because I can be rather strict about certain things ...(i.e. Players arguing with me because they didn't like something I did.) and I am very bad a multi-tasking in such. Right now I only have three people in the game, and probably will be putting an add in a near-by comic book store to see if there are more people that would want to play, but I'm not quite sure yet. Right now I'm still wondering what the hell the plot is!

Sorry, gettin' D20 modern mixed up with Serenity.

That's the fun of being what I like to call an "out-the-ass" DM (I'm one, too). You start with some PC's, a couple NPC's, and a vague idea what you can and cannot do with what you got. Then you make them fight Goblins and Kobolds (Or I guess in this case outlaws and reavers) for three hours.

I loooooved Serenity. And I think an RPG would be kick ass! Where can I get it? (And Serenity was way better then Star Wars III, and March of the Penguins was better than Serenity!)
