Make the storyline good. Avoid cliches and try not to make any plot holes. Other than that, making the story is your job to do. We will not write a story for you.

An idea will come to you. Just sit down and write whatever comes to mind. Character ideas, item ideas, field looks, etc. A good game has to have a little bit of inspiration. Just have a little note pad and small pencil in your pocket with you all the time. If you're driving and if something pops into your mind, jot down a quick note. If you're talking with friends and get an idea, write it down. You don't have to rush your story. You don't even have to HAVE a story right now. Play around with the game a little to see what's possible. Play the Dear Brave Heart game for half an hour and then go to the scripts. Let it just come to you over time. Soon, you'll figure out a good story with some side quests, and then have a ball seeing it all come together in your game.

Truth is, cliches are not that bad, and even professionally done games applauded by the masses have serious plot holes. Just ton't play up cliches when advertising the game, otherwise nobody will care enough to play. And many people just fill in the holes with their own ideas anyway.

If you've made a game with RPGM2, then you know your way around setting up a good plot for a game. Just wait for it, and until then just make stupid crap. Not only will you become familiar with the system, but you may also find that it helps you think about the story for your good games.

cliches should not be avoided as much as some people say.

Final Fantasy 8 relied almost entirely on tired cliches (like memory loss, the cliche to end all cliches) and a lot of people (not me) love the game.

One piece of advice: Please don't make another game like this:

The sacred ____ of ____ has been broken into ____ pieces and must be rebuilt by the hero by traviling to the ____ temples of power.

I've played enough of those games. You don't need to avoid cliche's, but at least put some sort of twist on them.

Me by saying avoid cliches is by making the game fresh and new. Now, this doesn't mean that your game's storyline has to be totally original, but does have to have what other games don't. The story should have something unique about it. I don't know if everyone knows the exact definition, but a cliche is basically an idea that has been used so much to the point where it's just dull. Anything like mythical beasts, magic, boss fights, and such are just traditional in just about any role-playing game. However, things like stereo-typical characters, concepts/themes that have been used over and over, and any thing else like the such, I say you should avoid.

Open a history book. That might be fun.

Ok i thought alll day yesterday...

There are 7 races, 7 nations, 7 countries, and 7 wise ones.

(Races: Human, Water, Cursed, Orc, Goblin, Undead, Dragon)
(Wise ones: Hades, Neptune, Cursed knight Titan, Balrog, Cerberus, Dark dragon)

All your life you have wanted to be a mercenary in your dads mercenary company(best in the business), but he always thought of you as a weak mercenary, and you could never proove your skill, because he wouldnt let you.

*Story starts* I walk into a bar with 2 of my fathers friends who want to become mercernaries, and ask the bartender if we could get a drink. He gives us 3 beers and we talk for hours about how we want to become mercenaries. As we leave the bar we see a great big flash that blinded us! first thing we did was go to my dads mercenary camp. We come to see him with a big gash across his chest. I go to see if he is alive, and he only said 2 things "take care of my company" and "I love you Son!" after the last line he dies, and your out to take a quest for who killed your father, you and your friends split ways! You go to find out who killed your father, and you come to find out that The 7 wise ones are taking down every threat to them, so they could rule the world! So you are now on a quest to kill the 7 wise ones and create 1 United Nation!

Make it melodramatic, have every damn second be someones last, all the family members die, you become blind, but can still run around, your poor, everyone hates you, you catch some horrible virus that slowly kills you the entire game, you fall in love with some one, shes kidnapped and beaten so you have to rescue her and then when you do she has a heart attack, and the world is suddenly doomed. Don't let one second go by with out some kind of misery, theres no end to this materal

Dunno -- sounds okay. The one I'm working on, you're the bad guy through the first third of it (doing a good job of it too), before your evil lord guy pushes you too far. Dunno, just me ranting... ^_^'

                          Re: Storyline

From your summary, it sounds like your hero completely forgets about his father's murderer and rushes of to destroy these Seven Wise Ones, are they related to the father's death? Also, what is the motivation for the Wise One's? You need to add more detail to these characters.

Also, the whole "avenging father's death" thing is a bit of a cliche. Then again, my first game involved collecting powerful crystals (the biggest cliche of all) so I guess I shouldn't be talking. Just thought I'd mention it.

If you make it so it's above the average revenge story, it might make a pretty interesting story and won't be so dull. Nonetheless, you do need to elaborate no matter what you do (like when you actually make the game). Tell us a bit more about the game when you add more to it. Not just the actual storyline, but perhaps major contributing factors as well like characters, settings, themes, etc. Don't give up on your basic idea, just expand on it.
