    Capcom Fighting Evolution/Jam

i'm not a huge fan of fighting games, but i love 2D fighters. mostly, i'm a fan of capcom & snk's 2D character art and sprite animation. i just got done unlocking the music themes for all the characters in CFE, so i thought i'd share my thoughts on this game with the rest of you.

this is kind of an older game(released in nov.2004), but i just got around to buying it a couple weeks ago. it features characters from SFII, SFAlpha, SFIII, DarkStalkers and Red Earth/Warzard(yay for the cool & obscure!). to me, it's a simple, old-school brawler with a decent cast of characters and balanced gameplay(although shin akuma seems a little overpowered to me). personally, i'm loving it, but capcom needs to address a certain issue before releasing another 2D fighter..

they HAVE to update their sprites! low-res just shouldn't be here anymore with advent of... technology. guilty gear games are perfect examples of superior high resolution sprites. why capcom has refused to refine their characters with a cleaner look is beyond me. laziness and complaceny are my only guess, because the DarkStalker cast is seriously pixelated..

...and that's about it! i love this game.

    I don't like fighting games.

I think the last one I played was Tekken 5 and people were all like "TEKKEN IS BACK!" so I played it and was like "TEKKEN IS STILL EXACTLY THE SAME!"

    So, yup.

    SPRITES!

Fighting games bore me also, Highwind.

Highwind however, does not bore me.

Yeah! That was exactly how I felt! I actually perferred DOA:U over it.

I love fighting games, though....uh...when they're good, which is almost never.

A local party hall has an original Street Fighter 2 game cabinet where, during our aunt's wedding reception, I proceeded to whip on my cousins with a single quaters worth.

*Just frame Skyrockets highwind and Dreamknight*

I hated CFJ, it was probably the worst 2D fighter Capcom's released in a long time. I honestly can't see why they didn't finish Capcom All-Stars, that had WAY more potential and a more diverse cast.

Considering how much 2D fighters sell these days, it's just not cost effective to make new sprites. You probably won't see any new sprites in Capcom's fighters until Street Fighter 4 comes out.

Wasn't Capcom Fighting Evolution pretty much universally rated as mediocre? And didn't Capcom essentially shovel Street Fighter to Capcom USA because they were through with it?

I don't know about Capcom giving SF to the US branch. Where did you hear that?

                      Re: Capcom Fighting Evolution/Jam

It was announced prior to the release of CFE. CoJ had officially retired it's 2D brawlers, so CoA had to make due with the old sprites. CoJ will never make any new SF, Darkstalker, etc. sprites ever again, in favor of 3D brawlers.

It rather makes sense that it turned out to be nothing special, considering it was pretty much a retirement hodgepodge.

so.. that means, street fighter 4 is going to be some kind of fully 3D fighting game? nooooooooo!!!

i guess i knew it had to happen sometime.. but, that's disheartening. i like sprites.

                          I loved Soul Blade.
I liked Mortal Kombat 4 but I think mostly for the endings.
I have MK Deception but I spend much more time playing Puzzle or Chess Kombat.
DBZ Budokai is only tolerable if you're a DBZ fan and even then only a little.
                          Primal Rage was fun.
                          Bloody Roar was lame.
Games of Street Fighter against my cousin always degenerated into me stuck in a corner getting hit by a million Hadokens.
As much as I loved Soul Blade, Soul Caliber 2 felt... soulless and they really could've done with less Ring Outs.
I've never been into Tekken aside from kicking people in the face as Hwaorang and I don't like any fighting game where I can beat arcade mode hardly losing a single round without actually learning any of the combos.
I think that's all the fighting games I've played enough to form an opinion.
