Getting the DS online

So, I got a DS for Christmas, and I have a wireless router. Do I need the dongle to go online, or what? Help me, please...

Never mind...I realized that not all multi-player games can go online. [/duh]

DJ, just check the list of compatible routers on nintendowifi.com.

Hito, the only WFC games so far are Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, and Tony Hawk Sk8land, plus Metriod Hunters next year.

Did you get that from the site? Cause it only has first-party games there.

There might be some other 3rd party wifi games in the pipeline but I think those are the only three out now.

I could figure out how to go online with my DS but I'd just end up doing picture chat with Loki so I don't.

The only game that allows you to chat with others online with the DS is Animal Crossing, and it dosen't use PictoChat. Therefore, you're safe.

Until an update patch is released, that is.

I meant to ask about that, have there been any annoucements about PictoChat going wi-fi or just speculation? It seems inevitable. I got to chat with somebody for the first time yesterday, my cousin who had gotten a DS for christmas. It was too much fun.

No official announcements as of yet, but they've definitely been tinkering with it.

I've heard some kid say he could do it with some fancy device or another, although he was a stupid 6th grader so it may not be true.

Does anyone have the Datel WiFi Max or know if it works well? I'm thinking of getting that rather than the Nintendo dongle since it can connect with other wifi devices not just the DS, and I don't want to buy a wireless router and find out it's not compatible.
