I think it was 1Up.com that said there are no checkpoints so if you die during a level you go ALLLLL the way back to the beginning a ala the recent Shinobi game, and that, unlike Ninja Gaiden, the massive difficulty is cheap and artificial.

So I'm kinda cautious about it... still looks amazing though...

There are yellow orbs you can buy which act as continue points, but are pricey.

This game looks rad, I loved the first one. I just hope it isn't plastered with cheese like the first.

i haven't seen any monster surfing except in a cutscene, but so far the difficulty just reminds me of contra or the original mario bros, anyone who says its a failing is a cry baby wuss.

Nah but really, 1 healing item and constantly pressings triangle seems to do the trick with the first boss.

When an enemy is down you can jump on it and surf it like he does in that cut scene.

It's not extremly useful, but it's fun to do, along with that pole play move.

And the first boss is laughable to me now. I managed to get good enough not to use a healing item at all. At first though, the boss will hand your butt to you a few times.

So far though the game has been pretty challenging, and I'm only on mission 5 now.

It's hard, but not impossibly so like many are claiming. Switching through all the fighting styles and trying to remember what does what all the time is probably what people find too hard.

It's a huge step up back up from the second game.

Jut got this today.

OMFG its tough, but absolutely kickass at the same time. You can buy healing items, but each time you do they go up in price. You start off without devil trigger too. I feel so naked without it.

But yeah, the first boss raped me too. I just threw my hands in the air and went "BAH!", and stormed out of my room.

I like how the skill system works. You can pick different "Styles", Trickster, Sword Master(i think), Gun Slinger, and some other one. Each style has its own set of moves, and the more you use a certain style the more moves you can learn.

Melee weapons level up like in DMC1, where you buy certain moves for that certain weapon, and guns level up like they did in DMC2, where you just buy an uprade that increases it attack.

Gunslinger is probably my favorite style right now. :D

A few things i've learned:

Yellow orbs cap out at 3000 so buy a lot.

Buy blue orbs whenever you have the money, huge life saver.

Play the level and wait to see if you die a lot, continue with the yellow orbs untill you feel you've wasted enough then just reload your game. Then buy green orbs if you need, so you dont just end up wasting them.. since yellow orbs are infinity cheaper.

If you have gunslinger standing in a corner and using twosome time is an easy way to clear a room of badguys if you dont feel like losing life fighting them.

Air hike is a priceless ability, most of the insanely hard bosses can be made a lot easier by having it.

And now I'm gunna go get my ass kicked again by the boss on level 11.

All I could think about in that first opening scene with Dante in his office was "WILL HE EVER GET TO FINISH EATING HIS PIZZA!?"

Thats all I could think through that whole fight.

Man, I felt so sorry after I kicked those two brothers asses. Those two guys that had the fire and ice swords. They seemed like some pretty cool guys to hang out with.

Man, this game is insane. Just beat Mission 7, on EASY mode. Freakin' impossible. And no, not Vergil. That stupid skull room. >_<

Gonna re-play Mission 4 again, and get some Red Orbs.

In that virgil fight jumping around constantly is a real life saver. Saving up 1 or 2 large vital stars doesnt hurt either.

Im up to mission 13 now. Its not the boss thats stopping me but the secret mission. Fight through a bunch of tough enemys, then fight two of those big scythe guys at once, with a couple more guys running around slashing at you. Its ****ing insane. I can beat it, but I use all my vital stars which I need for the boss. :lol

I played the first, and skipped the second.

DMC 3 is so ****ing hard though. I'm playing on normal and I can't beat the 3rd level boss. The Gunslinger style is fun as hell but it's so difficult to use. I'm trying Royal Guard now, and it's really good, but I'm still getting stuck on the 3rd level boss.

I unlocked Easy mode, but I don't really want it to be too easy.

Anyways..

Easy mode really isn't any easier once you get the hang of it. Stick on Normal, it's a piece of cake, just look for boss patterns and you'll be fine. I used Royal Guard most of the time, gunslinger is teh suck.

I'm on mission 14. I only had trouble with beating Cerberus, everyone else ate my dust thanks to lv2+ trickster.:)
