My old aim stopped working so I figured Id reinstall AIM and lo and behold the new one sucks fierce.

What can I switch to>?

Is trillian any good?

look for "GAIM". you can still talk to everyone you did using AIM, but AOL isnt attached to it in any way.

the new versions of AIM have a vital change in their TOS too. by using it, you agree that AOL owns the rights to re-use anything you say through the software for any purpose.

I think trillian is cumbersome.

I updated AIM but I havent noticed a difference. Then again, I dont really chat all that much. Except to **** off IRC, of course.

There is Dead AIM, but I think you have pay to install the software.

Definitely get GAIM as Valk said. Nothing else can compare. It's cross-platform, which means that the version you use in Windows is the same version I use on my Linux box, etc. It also has support for MSN and Yahoo messengers, along with AOL Instant messenger, and you can combine your buddy lists from all three services at the same time, in one program.

I've used GAIM. It's pretty good.

I only use AIM now, and it's working fine for me, so I've little need for it at the mo. But I can definitely recommend it.
