    Other Holiday Celebrations

I was curious if anyone else does "Other Than Christmas / Hanukkah" celebrations.

As a Born Again Pagan, I try to celebrate the old holidays from which some people claim the modern ones evolved.

This is not the Christmas Season for me so much as it is The Solstice Celebration.

New Years is not Midnight, January 1st. New Years is celebrated at Perihelion! (The point in Earth's Orbit when we are closest to the sun and start a new orbit... a New Year!) This year Perihelion falls on January 4, at 3:00.

Am I the only one who find this approach to be more rational than Deity based celebrations?

    Anyone have their own approach?

Either way, Peace and Enjoy The Season!

    MOO!

Ramadan and Eid Al Fitr have been over for a couple o' months, but Eid Al Adha is coming up soon, right after the Haj period (a two week vacation period in which people may go to Makkah to perform the Haj; a religious journey spanning that period which involves 0wnzzing Djinn and shaving our heads).

It's a family-centric holiday in which people get together, kind of like Christmas with lots of carnival trips, stage performances and fireworks instead of presents, which aren't compulsory at all. It's about a week long.

My family is Christian. The denomination of my immediate family is Lutheran.

I am not Christian, but Agnostic. I give a firm nod to true Paganism and Eastern philosophies. I dont really have any "holidays" that I consider sacred. I give thanks and acknowledgement at appropriate times and seasons. A far as this particular season, I very much enjoy being with my family, sharing togetherness and being greatful for what we have.

And I have no problem saying Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Happy Kwanza, Blessed Be, Merry Yule or Fesitvus for the rest of us.

So yall have a good one, whatever it may be.

About the same here. I call it Christmas, but what I mean is that day my family and I get together and exchange gifts.

some of my relatives hate that I "celebrate" christmas yet leave all religious parts of it out. they're mad that the atheist is stealing their holiday.

I acknowledge Christmas just cause it's there. But it's not like we really celebrate it anyway. It's been years since my household has decorated or exchanged gifts or done anything else special on Dec 25th so it doesn't make a difference.

All of my extended family except for my cousins on my dad's side get really ****ing mad at me every year.

I mean like, "get this kid out of my house" mad.

Serves me right for not living my life in fear of a higher being.

                          They all count!

I just thought that the non traditionalists needed to be heard from this time of year.

I know many celebrate holidays, but with so many different world views out there, I wondered how diverse we were as a group.

I forgot to mention that the 3 PM Perihelion was in Universal Time (Grenwich Mean Time or GMT) which is 5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time... so I'll be toasting the New Year at 10 AM!

Beer, It isn't just for Breakfast anymore!

                          MOO!

I get that a lot too.

But along with the not christian thing, I get it for being the family ****-up. So now I just like to mess with them when I'm there. But, at the same time, they love to give me stuff for my birthday and christmas.
