My question is, with the old NES games, was it the console or the games causing all the errors? Don't want to be a 60 dollar console and end up hittting it as much as my 10$ NES.
despite what all those companies claim, its still illegal. a copyright has expired, but there are several more that wont expire for up to 70 years, and of course, the patent will never expire.

I would have to hope that you don't really smack around your NES. That can't be good for it.
And it is the consoles. They really skewed up the connections inside when they made that thing. If it were top-loading like the Famicom, then there probably wouldn't be near as many problems.

You sure they're illegal? The Plug and Plays you see at the mall and such? I mean, I see them advertised on TV all the time. I got my mom pacman for her birthday...does that mean I'm a criminal?
Oh, and yes, Draygone, I hit my NES. Thats the only way it works.

thats not what we're talking about. the ones by jakks and other companies are perfectly legal.
the ones we were talking about are the bootleg systems that have a bunch of games already loaded on them, which are basically pirated games. same as selling roms, really. they really only pop up for sale in little stands in malls.
Well, if my NES's restarting (which it does or is required a lot when I start up the system) ever deletes my file on Dragon Warrior IV again (I learned real early to hold the reset button in when I'm trying to get the game to start up right), I might consider getting one if there's no compatability issues.
