    PoPoLoCrois is out!

For those that don't know, PoPoLoCrois (pronounced Poe-Poe-Low-Crow-Eez) was released a few days ago and just got into stores. It's a PSP rpg translated by our good friends at Agetec (and man, is it a GOOD translation because this game's script isn't exactly english friendly). It's sort of like the traditional old school rpg's of SNES days (10 year old boy with a sword must venture out to save his mother from the curse of an Ice Devil) but what it lacks in story it makes up in excellent characterization creating this really charming and touching story resembling Dragon Quest VIII. It's actually a combination of the two ps1 rpg's only released in Japan with an additional new chapter added in to tie up the time span between the two (you age in the game).

Despite a few graphical problems (like ghosting in interiors), this game is incredibly fun and it's the best handheld rpg I've played since Fire Emblem. The battle system is pseudo-tactical with a skill based level up system, the settings look like they're straight out of a mother goose book, and the script is very solid as are the anime cutscenes excellently voice acted. If you have a PSP and like rpg's, buy it and support Agetec's excellent work they put on this game.

My dad once told me he saw this feature in the news on how videogame companies will sometimes pay people to post in forums and create "word-of-mouth" for their games.

Video game companies really do that (I've seen it at gamingw, a forum I mod at least a dozen times) but I'm just a huge fan of this game... but if Agetec wants to pay me for advertising this I'll gladly accept.

agetec is extremely proud of PoPoLoCrois, they swear its their best work ever. They also went and fixed up every single bug they could find in the game. I'm looking forward to grabbing it in a few weeks. I would get it now, but I already decided that Armored Core would be the first game I buy for the PSP.

See? I knew it'd be well done.

Did they fix that one room glitch that caused something to happen to the game in the Japanese version?

              Re: PoPoLoCrois is out!

I'm about an hour in and so far no glitches. There's minor ghosting (everything looks a tad blurry when running like in rpgm2 but it's nothing major or gameplay destroying) but everything else is solid. You can really tell Agetec put a lot of work in the localization, translation, and even the voice actors (anime voice actors in a game that are actually good???? PARADOX). Even the title's graphic art and the box art are unchanged from the original which is a marvel in itself (Dragon Warrior's generic box art anyone?).

I do think this is Agetec's finest work. It's a shame this game will be looked down upon compared to other games coming out. My EB Games only got 3 copies in and they were all preorders.

                    Re: PoPoLoCrois is out!

With the release of this game, I finally want to own a PSP.

However, it still costs too much, and I can't ask for one for Christmas because 1) There's too much stuff I'm asking for already, and 2) I got the DS for Christmas last year, and after seeing how I only got three games along with it, I really don't want to lose out on so many games again. There's a 3), but that gets off-topic slightly.

Meh. I prefer the DS overall. Although PoPoLoCrois does sound pretty awesome.

I think I choose PSP. And don't forget about the armored core game. And Kingdom Hearts Game. But mainly popolocrois.

I'm sorry but I don't see the appeal. The art design, while intersting, is a little too cutesy. The design of the game seems too dated. I can understand people wanting to play it, but I don't see what the extreame fanatasim there exists for this game. It's like you either will ignore it compleatly or you have PoPoLoCrois bed sheats. There's no middle ground, for what seems to be a very middle ground game.
