    Oh Nintendo,

I’m glad their advertising has evolved over the years.

The Legend of Zelda NES commercial

    Intense!

The SNES one where Link and Zelda become part of the Rhythm Nation is a personal favorite.

        Good gravy.

Nintendo does seem to be beefing up it's advertising lately. They recently enlisted this group called Vital Marketing to help them with the urban sector. They made the "Who Are You?" Nintendo ads, I believe.

Nintendo's still totally outclassed by Sony and MS advert-wise, but at the very least, it's something.

Outclassed? Eh, maybe. The DOA4 commercial is nothing but FMV footage (haven't we come a long way since 1997...?) and Sony... uhhh...nothing comes to mind.

          I enjoy the guys-in-Mario-character-suits commercials.

Yeah, outclassed. Have you seen the XBox Lounges and Zero Hour? And I trust you recall the primary factor that caused the death of the Dreamcast.

The big corps are masters of the hype. It's, like, they have a button. A red one. With "hype" on it. A button which, once pressed, makes everyone go "Heil!" Or something in lieu of that.

                  Re: Oh Nintendo,

Nintendo releases plenty of great games, it's just that they were significantly fewer and further between than last generation.

Then again, the GC was a transitional and experimental stage.

What stage was the Nintendo 64?

That's what I want to know, too.

And yeah, Chrono, what other one could it be?!

After watching that super nintendo commercial, I've never wanted to have sex with Link so badly.

Imagine how depressing it's going to be with the Revolution.

                            The digital analog stage, duh.

Though Nintendo did take a significant hit during that period, they defined the 3D platformer via their implementation of digital analog with SM64. Hard to argue that it was a big step.

This generation marked a real experimental period in which they wanted to see what worked and what didn't, as well as Iwata switching from Yamauchi's reliance on 2nd parties to 3rd parties. Notice how their other partner studios like Silicon Knights have gone bye-bye one by one in the past few years, and how so many 3rd parties have expressed interest in Revolution? The period between the dropping of the 2nd and calling on the 3rd is one of the reasons for the significant dry spell this gen. GC only needed to keep them afloat this generation.

Keep in mind that they've also been working on the Revolution since before the GC was even announced. So, they're ready to attack, or something cool like that.

G4 said that the N64 was the greatest console ever made.

I wanted to punch the wall.
