    "Too old" for video games?

I find the assertion that people over a certain age shouldn't play video games anymore to be very annoying, and more-or-less unfounded. I don't see how entertaining yourself, or having a social gaming "party" or gathering or whatever with others, is any different that getting together and watching a football game, which is socially acceptable at any age.

Besides, when I get old and pathetic and unable to do any activity that requires me to move my legs, I sure hope I still have video games that I can play to entertain myself.

I bring this up because of an argument with a friend, and I realize that I am preaching to the choir here since you are all gamers, but dammit, I am right.

I think it's kind of like how cartoons are still considered "kiddie" stuff. People just equate things with a certain age group and belittle those who would dare enjoy them at any other age.

Agreed. Video games are just another form of entertainment that should be just as accepted as going to a football game at a stadium, or going w/ some buddies to a strip club. Hell, video games are interactive entertainment. Isn't that what Vegas is all about?

The world will grow up, it'll just take a while for the old generation to die.

Yeah, it really makes no sense to me. I mean, if people can be "too old" to play video games, why do they keep making ones that are Rated M? The point is that everyone should be able to enjoy them.

It really is just another form of entertainment. Nobody's ever too old to watch TV.

Personally, I plan on playing them until I no longer have motor skills.

I don't think that you can be too old to play videogames, but I have noticed a decline in the amount of gaming I've been doing in the past few years. Part of it is that I don't have time to sit and play games and part of it is that I find myself doing other things. For instance used to be I would spend my weekends playing some rpg for four or five hours, now I'll go to the river or something on the weekends. Nothing wrong with doing either in my opinion.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, because one of my good friends, who I met through interest in videogames, has recently completely lost interest in games. He says he has grown out of them. He sold his ps2 and hasn't been playing anything for a while now. I've tried convincing him to play more and I keep telling him about cool games that are coming out and everything, but to no avail. I've also noticed myself playing a lot less games than I used to. I want to play games, but I just cant seem to get into them as much. I certainly don't want to lose my interest in games. I have so many fond memories of playing rpgs and other games, and it has been a huge part of my life. I just hope someday a game comes out that I can like much as I like FFVII, and many other classic rpgs.

My friends and I do nothing but play videogames and watch movies.

I can't think of anything else I'd rather do.

I find myself not wanting to play most of the games that are coming out right now.

I don't know what the last game was that I was anticpating. Wait, GTA:SA. That's the last game I bought to. And the only game coming up besides sports games that I want is FF12, and that's not because I'm actually looking forward to the game but simply because its the next Final Fantasy.

I'd just as soon go back and play my snes than anything else at this point. I wonder if that's a reflection on my or on the games coming out now?

I'm day dreaming during class about when Valk will get Mazinz's archive up so I can play a bunch of old RM games . And I'm watching the Wild Arms 4 and the new Castlevania trailer at least once each a day.

I don't think I'll ever stop, I've been an addict since the day my sister put an atari joystick in my hands.

I think the market is oversaturated. SO MANY CHOICES.

And the latest EGM projects that game prices are gonna go up ten bucks in some time....

What an expensive ****in' hobby we got.

You're never too old for video games.

Screw the rest that says otherwise, they'll convert soon.

Videogames are more distracting, expensive and time consuming than watching sports.

                            Come on, now.

I do think there's a point in life where videogames should take a serious back burner to personal growth and accomplishment.

Yep. I think a huge part of the issue is just being too old to be farting around the rest of your life. Someone who spent that much time/money on any form of entertainment would also be frowned upon.

But then again, I think there is more of a negative connotation with video games in general than with other kinds of entertainment, even with time/money factors being the same. So you might be on to something there.

                              In conclusion,
