    Seemingly pointless things in games

Yeah, sometimes I have to wonder why certain things are the way they are in games. Like level caps. One can beat Final Fantasy 7 around or before L45. Yet, you can go to L99? I can understand having to go up maybe 10 or 20 levels more to defeat the Weapons, but why place the level cap so high? Does anybody actually need to get to L99 to proceed? I'm sure things might've just been fine and dandy if the level cap was 60 or 70. Mario RPG had its level cap at 30, and though one could beat the game at L23 or earlier, Culex and Jynx 3 sure can give you a whooping if you're not at least close to that cap.

Aside from maxing out to have wicked-cool stats and "OMG I can beat Sephiroth with one hit", there doesn't seem to be much reason for level caps to be so high. Maybe there is a point to high levels to others, but to me, well, there isn't.

Anybody else wondering things like that?

Probly because some people like to feel like they have done what most wont or cant.

why are there different kinds of enemies in rpgs? they should just make one type of enemy.

        That's a good point.

Didn't Bungie say that a great game is just the same 15 seconds of amazing gameplay repeated ad nausium?

Bungie says a lot of silly things.

I could understand the high level cap if say, we could do up to 99,999 damage in FFVII, but you can cap out at 9,000 before level 70. There's no point to it as it was.

Most "level caps" and other things that "cap out" are just the amuont of data involved. I think there was something in RPG Maker 1 or 2 that had a cap of 255 just because that was the biggest number useable before it took up another bit (or whatever incriment it was in) of space. No reason to limit what people can do in a game if they want, especially if it doesn't have to do with data space.

Yeah, the maximum level in SMT:Nocturne is 255, but the game stops keeping track at 99.

So you keep leveling up but it still says 99?

If you wanna talk about obsessive look at Nippion Ichie's Strat RPGs. Talk about unending leveling.

I just got Laharl to level 9999 baby. I wet myself after I saw how much experience it took to get there.

I think they have such high level caps because some people really obssess over these things. Like my brother. He played FFVII until all of his characters were level 99, then beat the game. The funny thing is, the final boss gained 80,000 life points BECAUSE he had been level 99 And he wondered why it took forever to beat him XD

what? it should never take more than 5 minutes to beat sephiroth. even at level 99.

Can we talk about more seemingly pointless things? When I think of seemingly pointless things, I think of superfluous details.

I was on my way to the 11th Colossus in SotC, when I came across a turtle by a ravine. It crawling really slowly. I figured, if I can kill lizards and colossii, maybe I can kill turtles. I pulled out my bow, aimed straight down into the turtle, and shot. The arrow bounced right off. I kept shooting, but the turtle's shell was impervious to my arrows. So I pull out my sword and swung at it. It pulled itself inside its shell, and it wouldn't come out.

                            That ****in' turtle.

                              Is invinsible.

You have to admit, though, being impervious dosen't help a lot in a battle if you cannot dish out any damage whatsoever.
