Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time

I'm really, really looking forward to this. Superstar Saga was my all-time favorite handheld RPG, sporting hillarious dialogue, a cool action/menu hybrid battle system and wackyness at every turn.

If you don't know the premise of this game, picture the lovechild of SMRPG, CT and any random Dave Carter game.

I really wish Square would just team up with Nintendo again but I have to settle with this. I loved SSS and I hope they add in some cool new teamwork abilities because those were hilarious. They should also keep the sound effects; nothing was funnier than switching between the abilities and making them say "JUMP" and "SPIN" to the beat of the music.

I also hope there'll be some touch features. Pretty much every DS game I've played doesn't make good use of the bottom screen and I feel like it's just a waste to have it there (I'm looking at you Castlevania with your KILL ICE and TRACE BLUE LINES features).

I don't know if I should get it or not. I have the first one and it didn't really impress me much. Once you get it, please post your thoughts.

If only they made a Paper Mario for the DS, I would be in Heaven!

Same here. Though at least they're not completely ignorant of the Mario RPG series. They let Alphadream use Geno in M&L1, though it was nothing more than a doll that gave explanations to one of the minigames so it wasn't all that special, and not worth considering a spoiler. (And I noticed that Geno is indeed owned by Square, as evidenced at the end of the credits. Which obviously would mean Mallow, Frogfucious, Booster, Croco, Belome and every other new character in that game are owned by Square.)

Touch-screen usage would be nice, but I don't see it getting much use here. If it were a Paper Mario game, then it'd be getting plenty of use what with all the button presses and stick movements that already go on in that series, but Mario & Luigi is pretty much restricted to using the A/B buttons for Mario/Luigi.

Personally M&L ranks 3rd on my best Mario RPG list (4th goes to the first Paper Mario, which I found great until PM2 outclassed it in every way possible). It was decent enough, and certainly had a few nice plot twists and cameos, but something about it just disappointed me somehow. Can't think of what. Still, I look forward to this one.

Intelligent Systems on Paper Mario and Alpha Dream on Mario & Luigi is working just fine. Squaresoft would probably hand the title over to Nomura so he can fill it with chibi Tidus and Squalls.

Dang it, you just made me doubt if there being a real Super Mario RPG 2 would be a good idea. However, I want my 3-member parties back, with Princess Peach and Bowser on my side along with a couple other not-koopa/goomba/other-common-enemy-that-actually-is-a-good-guy-for-this-instance in the party. Seriously, over half the playable cast in PM2 are just otherwise normal Bowser troops with something changed about them to make them stand out more (i.e. white fur with red glasses for an otherwise normal mouse thief, ponytail and helmet for otherwise normal goomba, etc.). And while I like having Luigi as a PC, I wouldn't mind being able to have one or two other characters tagging along.

The only game I've played that really takes advantage of the touch screen is Nintendogs. Though I haven't played them I know Kirby Canvas Curse, Trauma Center, and Trace Memory use it impeccably also. Pretty much the only games that really use the touch screen well are the ones that couldn't exist without it. The regular games that just add the touch screen as a bonus end up not doing it well.

Especially games that try to imitate analogue control using the touch-screen. I tried using it awhile with Mario 64, and it was terrible for me.

Is that really said in the game?

Metroid prime really uses the Touch screen well also. I dont know how you can play w/out it.

The Hammer Bros. are the 1337 speakers right? I read it in a review. That Sal Manella guy in Phoenix Wright does it too. It was funny when Maya kept asking "What does 'suck sores' mean?" and stuff like that. And to a subtler degree, Jake from Advance Wars: DS did it too.
