    Idea For Nintendo DS MMORPG

First off, if they are going to have a MMORPG for the DS then they should keep graphics simple. 3D would be nice if it doesn't cause problems but I would be content with 2D like Maple Story.

If they wanted to do updates for the games I thought of a genius idea that might make this possible. For every major update they do they would make it into a GBA cartridge. So you could have it in the DS as well as the game. For every one they would release, it would have everything from the last one.

Would this idea work? I really want some form of a MMORPG for the DS.

An MMORPG for the DS, or any particular handheld, would likely be a bit too much, especially considering the philosophy behind it.

However, anything's possible. And you can guarantee some form of it on the Revolution.

Selling updates on GBA carts wouldn't be practical because of the cost of the carts. Selling updated versions of the game on DS cards would make more sense since they are cheaper. Maintaining a real MMORPG requires too many updates to do that though. Just look at how many updates games like WOW have. I think the closest thing to a MMORPG you'll see on DS would be something like Phantasy star Online.

In the meantime, you can always play Animal Crossing: Wild World.

PSO didnt have any updates, that is a good example of an MMO on the DS, but I am not sure if I wanna spend 100+ hours online on a DS like I did on the consoles.

Well, they could always include an empty GBA pak with the game to act as a "hard drive". I think I've heard of 512Mb paks before. If the game were 2D, then it wouldn't be too much trouble to keep updates small enough to fit on the cards, I would assume.

Currently, the largest flash cart available for the GBA is 1gb so it's POSSIBLE. The problem is, while cartridges can access memory faster, they store memory slower. Updating a cartridge eventually wears down the cel within the cartridge itself. While I won't say it's impossible (because anything's possible really), you'll more likely see a MMORPG on the PSP or just none at all simply because accessing a memory card is quicker and cheaper than packing an entire GBA or DS cart.

I don't think I could play a MMORPG on a handheld due to the grinding (except it'll be on a smaller screen, ugh). Animal Crossing is about as far as the line goes for me.

Is the DS even capable of using the GBA and DS slots at the same time? I would think it'd overtax the processor.

Yeah, the DS rumble pack is actually a GBA cartridge. So I think a GBA pack mainly used as memory would be fine.
