    Final Fantasy & DQ Doing a 360

"TOKYO--In an interview with Reuters, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada disclosed that his company is considering releasing new installments of its Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest role-playing series on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. 'We will decide by E3 in May [2006] as to whether to release them on both the PS3 and Xbox, or just one platform,' Wada told Reuters."

I looks like I'll be getting a 360 sooner than I expected. This should be additional incentive for making up for neglecting the current 'Box, assuming it happens.

Oh, and XBL. Definitely XBL. Robust and stuff.

And the possibility of MR being released on it.

Dang it, I want one. Even the possibility of MR being released on it is enough to warrant it for me.

Microsoft realized you can't do well in Japan without generic rpg's so not only did they sign on square to release Final Fantasy 11 + Chains of Prom-whatever on the 360, but Squeenix is also making a 100% original exclusive game called Mistwalker or something like that. Personally I prefer my pc style rpg's like Knights of the Old Republic, but with the delay of Oblivion (ARGHFRFHGFHGHGLGHFL TAKE-TWO), I won't be getting my open ended fix until early next year.

There is a contradiction in your testimony.

Mistwalker is a company formed by former SE designer and FF series creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi. It cannot be the name of a game.

Will they be games designed for the Xbox 360 or mearly ports of the PS3? I've avoided looking at the tech specs of what the new consoles are capable of because they make no sense to me, so I don't know if there will be a difference in graphical qualities like there is with the Xbox and PS2. But if there's no difference between the 360 game and the PS3 game I most likely will stick with the PS3. Of course I haven't even looked at what system I'm going to buy and Final Fantasy was going to be a major factor so who knows what effect this will have.

            Well...

FFXII's gotta come out first before we can worry about what systems the next one will be on.

              In simplest terms...

              xbox 360 = 3 - 3.2Ghz processors
              ps3 = 7 - 3.2Ghz processors

....It shall be quite obvious which system is more powerful then the other.

PS3 by 12.8 gigahertz. So what happens if I get the disc spinning up to 88mph?

Shoot, I was planning on not buying any new systems. But I forgot about Final Fantasy. Oh well I guess I will get a ps3. Unless of course xbox 360 is better. I'll wait until people get them and I can find out which one is more powerful myself.

Edit: It pops out of the ps3 and shoots at someone, because it is cheap stuff probably.

It doesnt work like that, the core technology makes it so each cell is performing a specific action, which in turn speeds everything up.

A simple break down would be something like...

                    core 1 - processing sound
                    core 2 - rendering
                    core 3 - rendering
                    core 4 - rendering
                    core 5 - output
                    core 6 - input
core 7 - the other 6 cores process threw this core.

Obviously this isn't EXACTLY how it works, but you get the point I assume.

Regardless of whether the PS3 is stronger than the 360 or vice versa, it'll be a couple years before developers are pushing their limits so it won't make much differnce until then. By the same token, it'll probably be another year before 360 has more than one or two games that interest me so for now (aside from entering every sweepstakes to win a free one I can find) I'm not thinking about getting one.

Re: Final Fantasy & DQ Doing a 360

Actually I think that when the PS3 is released, the graphics will be = to the graphics of the games that are going to be released on the 360 at the same time.

The Killzone 2 and Heavenly sword titles are enough to convince me.

One thing I've noticed though is that, while people are getting hyped about all of this, the lighting and normal mapping technology has been around on the PCs for about a year or so now, so it's really nothing new.

Xbox360 will be at the same level as most current highend PC's and the PS3 will come out ahead of what PC's will be able to do. A PS3 will be significantly more powerful then any PC on the market probably, unless you own a high dollar super computer.

Of course from all the frame rate talk we won't be able to tell the difference.

I honestly don't care what SE does anymore. I'm just gonna play whatever game they make and form conclusions later.

I don't see developers ever pushing PS3 to its limits. The system is way too powerful to make a game taking full advantage of such power in a reasonable amount of time. When creating a 3D model, it's obviously going to take less time to make a model with 3000 polygons than it will to make the same model with 3,000,000 polygons. Or whatever numbers they're pushing out there.

Then again, I know nothing about 3D modelling, so I could be wrong. Low-poly models just sound easier than high-poly ones.
