This is a review?

IGN has finally reviewed RPG Maker 3, and you would think that in the 2 months it took them that they would have been able to say something somewhat informed about the game, but come on people. This is IGN. You know, the people who stole RPG Maker 2 preview images from us and didnt bother to crop-out our watermark for several days afterwards. These are the same people who listed RPG Maker 3 as a US version of RPG Maker XP. To expect anything somewhat knowledgable to come out of them concerning the RPG Maker series is downright idiotic.

Inside their review you'll find that the reviewer repeatedly calls RPG Maker 3 the first 3D installment in the series and straight-out says RPG Maker 2 was 2D, and then goes on to says there's no official way to trade games. Um, hello? rpgmaker.agetec.com, which is listed in the manual mentions 2 very nice officially supported ways to trade games. of course, then he contradicts himself later on by saying that there isnt any way at all to trade games.

I guess it's hard to research a game when you're busy planning out new ways to anger your visitors via invasive flash ads.

The game has a very steep learning curve. It throws menu after menu after menu at you, and while this is great in terms of how much control you have over every nook and cranny of your world and the rule set and creatures therein, you're still working against the incredibly long learning curve in order to craft your vision.

Must be steep for idiots....but for everyone else, including 2 year olds, it is extremely easy.

This is about the easiest RPG Maker yet. If it was RPGM2, however.

But then again, I don't go to many gaming sites.

Couldn't find edit, is it not in this forum? If so, I apologize. But I found a snippet.

Though the last game was in 3D, much of the game's content was based around more generic models that relied on their texture sets to describe the details, which allowed for a large amount of customization as you could import images and such to customize the game all you wanted.

So I guess he contradicted himself again?

And correct, there is no edit button in this section of the Pavilion.

You know, I'm not sure I should be glad they took the time to give it a review or wish that they had left it reviewless like GameSpot has since RPGM2.

Please tell me that this guy is not getting paid to write stuff like this.

I thought he brought up a few points worth mentioning, like how nice it would have been to do stuff like making the class and equipment for the character without having to exit out of the people editing menu. It also would have been nice to have more control over the look of the game.

It is, however, pretty obvious that he either was only given a couple hours or only took a couple hours to both mess with the game and write the review. If I was the editor for a major publication and he applied, submitting this as his best work, I'd hire a roomful of chimpanzees long before even considering calling him back.
