1-8-7?
Concept
1-8-7? is a Machinima (a movie created using a game engine or development kit). This series is comprised of 4-parts, each one only lasting about 3-10 minutes. It started as a series of doodles and a base idea around the winter of 2004; a year later I decided to piece it together. This is the pilot episode, created simply as a way to gather a general opinion about the idea.
The story is generally serious while the art is intentionally rough and simplistic to serve as a constrasting style. Either way, it's more of a collection of "lunch break" doodles than a serious work. It's just something new because I'm pretty sure most people are tired of LOL SPIKEY HAIRED 12 YEER OLD WITH SWORD MUST SAVE TEHW WOLRD
Story
The Big Apple, 1955...
In the seedy underbelly of the America's greatest city, Dip Mackenzie, private investigator, is down on us luck, drunk, and contemplating OD'ing on morphine. As he puts the bottle to his lips, a rock crashes through his window carrying a letter written by a friend who died 5 years ago. It invites him to a poker game at an old mansion outside of town. Ever the curious fellow and with nothing to lose, Dip loads his gun, drains his liquor, and steps out into the unknown.
Characters
Dip "Shifty" Mackenzie
A hard boiled, drunk, suicidal, misanthropic, square-jawed, blocky-shouldered, xenophobic, communist hating, cynical, chain smoking private detective. He's seen a successful run in his experiences on the hard streets of the Big Apple and it's caused him to forget the joys of life and focus on the negatives. His only one true love is his job and liquor. He's nicknamed "Shifty" because his keen sense of detail causes his eyes to sporadically shift around. He's always seen either with his eyes closed or one eye squinting.
Devil Whiskey A.K.A. "Killer666"
A powerful concoction created in the titanium bathtubs using a military rejected formula designed to create an organ melting liquid gas with a mixture of turpentine, kerosene, and a hint of rasberry and honey. It was released during the prohibition act of 1919 to underground drinkers who wanted something a bit "stronger" than the normal beer. While most of the beverage's killer qualities have been reduced during the fermentation process, a fat, red warning label on the neck clearly states "Warning: This **** Kills." It was even drunk by suicidal stock brokers during the great depression of 1929. The liquor is so powerful that it's possible to get drunk simply holding a closed bottle through the perspiration into the skin.
Despite it's worldwide ban, many brave fermenters and alchohol masters brew this potion in caste iron bathtubs and it goes for a pretty penny on the market. Dip is one of the few who still know the golden recipe and he drinks Killer666 almost exclusively.
