    Good ol' RPG Maker 1

A.) Is there any way to make a somewhat decent strategy type game with it?
I have found I could make a small strategy mini-game with switches, but does anyone know if you could make a full game out of it?

B.) If you use the command go to next scenario, do the switches come over from the last scenario data, or can you make more switches?

C.) I remember reading that Valk had a way to have unlimited data, or something like that? Can someone, or preferrably Valk tell me what it is?

    B) Yes, the switches stay on. But when you go to a new scenario, it's helpful if you just reuse the switches that you don't need anymore. Like if Switch 024 was used to make the game remember that some important scene was played, turn that off and reuse it for something else, since that scene won't be on the new card and thus the game doesn't need to know that it was played. On the other hand, if you're going to allow the player to backtrack to previous cards for one reason or another, then you'll have to keep those switches for their original purpose.

    C) Well, you can't literally have unlimited data (well, except with scenario data, but that's guarenteed to corrupt your game if you try it). It's just a way to use more than one system card. Essentially you have your first system card and second system card have the same name. When the player reaches the end of the first system card, have them save and turn off the game, and reload the game with the new system card in place. But like with Scenario data, you'll have to get rid of unneeded system data when you move to a new system card.

I think the only feasible way of making a strategy-rpg with rpgm1 is copying the part in FF6 with Locke and the moogles.

Hell, it would surprise me if a new one would be over 10 bucks. Either way, it should be pretty cheap by now.

It is over 10 bucks! Can't be right all the time, I guess. RPGM1 was a nice start for the console RPGMs and for me brings back good memories. Obviously very good for making old school RPGs.

To answer your first question, I'm pretty sure though it'll take some effort. Hey! Czechs Mex made a great checkers game with RPG Maker. I don't see how you can't create a decent strategy game. Then again, I haven't really made a strategy game so I couldn't tell you. If you did make a strategy game with RPG Maker 1, I'm sure some of us would be impressed with your work.

If I recall though, the checkers game didn't have any computer AI. It was strictly 2-player only. AI would be a total pain to program in RPGM1, to the point where it's not worth it if you go with something complex like a strategy battle. That's not to say creating any sort of battle system of your own would be wasted effort, the battle system would just have to be something simple. Except in my case, as I like to go all-out.

Gamestop's always a huge rip-off!!! Look at ebay and I'm sure you'll find it under $20, MAX 25.

                      Yep. That's true.

And everything you said about making AI is true with RPG Maker, but nobody said AI was easy to create in the first place. I'd imagine creating AI would take some time, and with RPG Maker, maybe even more so.

You can try it out though, Lord Mofop. If you did so, I'll just say "WOOOOW!".

I can't remember who, but someone here found a trick to make memory usage of scenario data go down into the negatives. I think it involved typing a message, cutting the message, bringing the memory real low, and then pasting the message back to where it goes below zero. But it wasn't long before that person found all their data corrupted.

the RPGM2 trick requires you to get the date and time of the saves the same, which is a pain in the ass.
