Re: Katamari guy didn't want to make sequel
This is why breadth in the industry is just as important as depth. Without it, we'll end up seeing fewer titles like Katamari.
It's a shame that we won't be seeing much of Katamari in the future.Last edited by RPGD; 11-10-2005, 03:29 PM.

It's not that he doesn't like games, he just doesn't like Generic Dark FPS #8 or Sports Franchise: Year Number games. I think he only likes games that are new and fun (like Katamari, go figure), and therefore I can see how he would dislike the majority of the game industry.

awesome! playgrounds today suck. they got no heart! it's all "safe" things that in no way possible will harm the children or allow them to have fun. every once in awhile i seem my old elementary school, and almost every single enjoyable thing the playground has is gone, replaced by boring, plastic piles of garbage.
i agree with his perspective of the industry, but i don't think it's as bad as all that quite yet. it's certainly got the potential to head downhill at a very fast pace, but it remains to be seen if it will or not.
my guess is...yes.

Re: Katamari guy didn't want to make sequel
I like this guy.But Mr Takahashi did not want to make a sequel. He only got involved after his employer Namco said it would otherwise go ahead without him.
"I didn't want players to be disappointed so I decided to take part," he says. "There are fun things are in the game, though I am not happy with all of it."
Mr Takahashi is not afraid to be critical of an industry where firms play it safe by backing proven money-spinners, often based on sequels and franchises.
I'm probably one of the few people who, after hearing of Katamari 2, thought "Oh great, now they're going to milk this into a new franchise. So much for originality.""What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Clearly from that article, it's exactly what Namco is planning on doing. I really like it that the media is reporting about the disatisfaction of developers and players more and more.I'm probably one of the few people who, after hearing of Katamari 2, thought "Oh great, now they're going to milk this into a new franchise. So much for originality."
I really do hope they give this guy a revolution dev kit. One could only imagine the crazy **** this guy could come up it.If you don’t like the Revolution controller, you are fundamentally part of the problem and killing the ****ing art form. ~Kieron Gillen

Yeah, it sounds like the Revolution and DS are his kind of thing.
Speaking of which, I'm wondering if he's involved with Katamari DS."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change.
