Pure newbie to the rpg maker thing,seeking advice.

Hiya everyone.I came to this forum because I am interested in rpg maker 3.I am tired of playing games that you can't modify stuff and create your own character.I tried playing mmorpg but those are a ever ending drug.

I thought of making my own game for instance,just for fun.A rpg with some mmorpg flavor of mine.Like making forbidden weapons,rare items etc etc.I won't make a career out of it.I was thinking of maybe getting rpg maker 3.What do you guys have to say to me before bying it? I know it's going to be a new experience and hard but I am willing to take the challenge.

Well if you don't have any experience in game making, I would suggest RPGM3 out of the console ones to start with.

It is the easiest.

For your mmorpg style game, you can do it very easy with this one, but there is no random function, so it would be hard to replicate random loot drops.

Just make sure you have a usb keyboard, so you won't kill yourself, when you go to type out all the text.

You can, but it only is used to make the game load somewhat faster. No real need for it.

Oh, and if you want to share your game, I would suggest getting a Max Drive, which you can find in most Ebgames or Circuit City.

How many memory do you have for a game?I was planning on waiting for a PS3 to get the game.Since the PS3 will use memory stick and it will be easy to tranfer data to PC.

I wouldn't suggest waiting that long...

It isn't that much trouble to get it now.

You are stuck to using only one memory card, but it is big enough to make a good sized game.

If you want to dabble with sprites, then RPGM1 would be a good choice, and since Valk is opening an online store with dex drives and RPGM1, you could buy it that way.

But either way, I would suggest getting it now, since there isn't much info to tell if the max drive will work on PS3.

You're game will take up nearly 3000 MEM on your memory card, so make sure you have a memory card specifically for RPGM3.

1- What is the maxium lvl that your characters can reach?

2-Can I make my characters travel from a boat?

3-Can I make the user use the same save data of my old game and make a new game that the user can use is save date into my new game?(Sorry for my english )

4-Can I make an alternate dimension area like Dynamis in ffxi?What I eamn is some sort of alter dimension of somesort.

5-Where can I get the max drive at a good price if i'm from Canada?

RPGmaker 3 (from what I am hearing)

Is the most limited and easiest rpgmaker in existence ( & best graphics)

You are limited to 100 characters per file
USB keyboard necessary
Are limited to 300 items per file
Everything that you saved in file one (map/exp/items) must be in file two
(So whatever map your on or exp/items you have in one must be in two.)

There are no boats per say...however(my plan to have a "boat" in a later file)
I will be having a captain in a town by the sea. You go up to the sea
merchant and buy fair. When your ready to leave you go back to him and the player is warped into a building and I'll have Warp Points connecting to different decks or "buildings" until they trigger what needs to be done for the landing into the next town.(BGM=Waves)

1-.I want to have only 1 class to play with but I want to give the user the choice of selecting which class.Is it possible?

3-How many maps can you make for a game.How many worlds??

The only way you could allow the user to pick different class types is if you make different chars so just keep in mind with each "class change" you'll have a character change.

How many worlds can you make? Worlds = fields or fields that are linked
you can make as many as you want but remember vegetation fields cost
alot of memory. But technically you have many more than you'd ever need the question is do you have the memory for it.

Thanks for the info guys.I will definetly get this game.There is one last couple of questions that I have.

1-I heard that you can make maximum of 100 characters.How does it work if I want to have many monsters in different field??

2-Can you remane the weapons also?

3-Can you add special attributes to each weapons?Like add 999 dmg etc.?

There are no "Monsters" on the field. Random battles are a must...especially with the character limit.

Random encounters can be set on Low-medium-high

One question you didn't ask but should have is how you "make chars"

The answer is u don't u have preset models
