I haven't fooled around enough with RPGM 2 yet....it looks really hard! But I am willing to try it if it was possible to make something close to a strat/rpg (ala FF Tactics) with it. Is this possible?

Possible, yes. But VERY difficult. If I recall, I think someone here was able to at least get close to making such a system.

Vespulith is currently working on a guide on how to make one, as far as I know.

Yeah I am pretty sure it is possible. But you would have to get pretty good at RPG Maker 2. Every time I try to play I always get frustrated with the building/dungeon/map editors. They are the hardset thing because you try to do something and it does something else. I spent atleast a half an hour trying to get the certain texture on all sides of the block. There is a special key combination that does this but I couldn't get it to work. It is still definatley the best RPG Maker out of RPG Maker 2 or 3 (I havn't tried 1 yet). And Jugem created Tetris if that means anything.

Yeah, the dungeon/building editor's got clunky controls, it seems. One thing I noticed was that when you hold a button and then press start you get different help messages. It's also like this in the map editor. Gl

I started working on a tactics battle system a long while back. It's possible but just takes a lot of time. I eventually stopped working on it to do my ACBS zelda game, but I should start one again. Tactic systems aren't the worst games to create the only part that makes it difficult is enemy AI, but if you can create some half-ok working system and boost their stats a little, you can balance it out pretty well.
If you really want to make it you need to know your stuff though, scripting complex things has to be second nature, I've helped quiter a few people through how to make an ACBS and it's a pain walking them through every little baby step. I don't mind general explanations but you yourself need to put the whole thing togther. I really suggest starting with some simpler stuff first to, build yourself up. And a little programming know-how helps a lot too.
