View Full Version : Split up the RPGM Workshop?

I've noticed that a lot of topics in the RPGM workshop have the second post, "are you talking about RPGM 1 or 2?" It seems to me that it might be advantageous to split the Workshop up into two seperate forums - one for each RPG Maker. Someone playing RPGM2 can't really benefit from a topic about Sniffy's sprites, and someone playing RPGM1 probably doesn't care about how to disable the O button in RPGM2. In addition, if a newcomer goes into the current workshop looking for the answer to his or her RPGM1/2 question, half the topics will be of no worth whatsoever. RPGM 1 and 2 are so different, I can't think of a single technical question that would apply to both of them. It seems to make little sense to have the topics merged together.

The only downside might be that another forum would "clutter up" the forums list. But really, it would SIGNIFICANTLY reduce clutter inside the workshop.

This idea seems like it would fit perfectly with the RPGM General topic. If we did go through with the split, we have RPGM General for game ideas, general questions, character/story advice, etc. (basically any kind of information that is abstract enough to be applied to RPG Maker 1 or 2). And then for specific technical questions you can post in the appropriate workshop forum.

Just a suggestion.

I thought about this, but decided against it because neither forums were very active at the time we ditched the EZboard. once I can talk to mora, we'll reconsider it,

Okay, cool. Even if we just had two subforums for RPGM Workshop, that would probably be more tolerable than having everything together.

But yeah, I'm sure you guys weren't expecting the RPGM1 rejuvenation.

we really weren't. I'm pretty shocked.

I'll be even more amazed if even 1/4th of the planned games actually get released.

Well actually, I did finish my RPGM1 game for contest 2 :)

And I almost have the entire beginning chapter of my pirate game "Diary of Anne Bonny" done :)

Well, I'd be happy to look after the RPGM1 workshop if it came to that. Though the point of this topic wasn't for me to weasel my way into a mod position.

I have a possible solution... Whenever you post, you can designate a Post Icon, and for the initial post in a thread, the Post Icon is shown in the topic list. Well, if you designate two Post Icons (one for RPGM1 and one for RPGM2), then that could help people decide which topics to read. I realise everyone won't remember to use the Post Icons, but it would help a little (maybe). Just a thought.

Now that is a good idea! That could work well.

Can those post icons be customized? Ones that say RM1 and RM2 would be a boon!

Glad I could be of some help, still. I rarely have anything to post... :D

I'd prefer the seperate forum myself, but I think BlueSenshi's idea would work, too, provided people actually use the icons. Whichever is easiest to implement I guess.
