I had to write this essay in class(about 30 mins), about what it means to be successful:
------------------------------------
Sitting on my cold hard floor staring up, wide-eyed, at the flickering frames of the moving images on my small television; my mouth drops, striking an overly dramatic pose, as I watch the movie Sinbad. Ideas and images rebounded off the inner-walls of my head, as if a state winning basketball game was now in session. Thinking that riches of gold and silver made a person truly successful, but I was young and foolish. What truly creates a successful person is not what lies inside of his purse, but what resides in his inner-being. Happiness and love; something you can’t plunder or salvage, instead, you must travel your own adventure to discover it.
Through my expedition; over ravaging seas and thick rainforests, my mighty adventure for my holy grail had just begun. Climbing mountains and slashing through dark forests; where hope seemed to have been extinct, I finally hit the climax of this search. Holding in my hands, more gold and silver any pirate ever dawned on; finally my adventure came to an end. Within the chambers of my hands laid a beating heart, full of my golden pathway to success. During my adventure, things dawned on me: Having gold and silver can buy ‘friendships’, ‘respect’, ‘and any personal desire you may hunger for. To an extent, that indeed could ‘create’ happiness, but once your purse slowly empties to reveal nothing but emptiness, those ‘friendships’, ‘respect’, and desires slowly fade away into a pigment of memories that blow away with the winds of time. But something that takes more then an adventure to discover is happiness and love. Only when you are truly happy and accept life as it is, will fill that empty purse with the most precious and delicate gold of all time; love. Having people that truly love you, care about you, and need you, will your adventure finally come to an end.
So to this, I leave my treasure map, where ‘x’ represents true success in life. And though you must travel high and low, in the end, you will become the richest Sinbad in all legends and myths.
