    Calvin and Hobbes article~

I thought it was very interesting.
    You tell me.

I have nothing but respect for this guy. He influenced my drawing style and showed me that you can blur the lines between illustration and cartooning and make it work. I also admire the fact that he never "sold out" to the degree that some other cartoonists did (Jim Davis, I'm looking in your direction).

yep, never sold out. the only calvin and hobbes merchandise are the books. the other stuff is just bootleg crap. can't hold the books against his "no merchandising" standpoint, because we need those damn books. he ended when he was on top, instead of dragging it on forever like certain other people.

I hope he's happy, where ever he is. he's deserved it.

So what you're saying is, Charlie Brown should stay dead.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

while calvin and hobbes didn't influence my non-existant art style any, it, along with bloom county, had a great effect on my vocabulary. whenever i didn't understand the big words that calvin would lay down i'd trundle up to my mom and ask her what they meant. she was always nice enough to explain, and after awhile wondered where i was hearing all these big words (which i usually didn't pronounce correctly).

so...let your children read comics strips. good ones.

Peanuts should have quit long before it did, and they need to stop with this classic peanuts garbage. it's dead. it's sad, but it has to happen eventually.

Yeah. EVERYTHING THAT HAS A BEGINNING HAS AN END, NEO

That is totally awesome. But selling out is so... tempting!!!!

And ending on a high note is the best thing a creator can do. Wouldn't it have been nice if Matt Groening ended The Simpsons when he moved on to Futurama? Or if Chris Carter friggin' snuffed X-Files when Duchovny left? ...I'm sure there are far better examples but that's what came to mind. On the flip side, it was ballsy as hell for Chappelle to walk out on his show. Good things should end more often before they turn into horrid crap.

The last strip shows Calvin and Hobbes sledding off after a new fallen snow. "It's a magical world, Hobbes, ol' buddy ... let's go exploring!" Calvin says in the final two panels.
That totally reminds me of the last line of Ghost in the Shell.

And you all probably saw this but I'll link to it anyway... http://metaphilm.com/philm.php?id=29_0_2_0

In the film Fight Club, the real name of the protagonist (Ed Norton’s character) is never revealed. Many believe the reason behind this anonymity is to give "Jack" more of an everyman quality. Do not be deceived. "Jack" is really Calvin from the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes. It’s true. Norton portrays the grown-up version of Calvin, while Brad Pitt plays his imaginary pal, Hobbes, reincarnated as Tyler Durden.

              Greatest comic strip ever.
I read through all the books every month or so.

                Yup!

Calvin and Hobbes has been my favorite comic strip since age 6.

I'm okay with the Clasic Peanuts. It's much better reprinting them than giving the strip to some ghost writter and have it go on indefently, like so many other strips do. Still I'd rather see the space in the papers goto new artists than reprint old comics.

What I'm really worryed about is Garfeild. I don't think I could stand "clasic" reprints of the piece of trash for the rest of forever.
