weapons/joining party members

First I would like to thank everyone for the almost instant help.
Here is my next question, Ready guys?
In my game You start off as the lead character a young boy, you inherit this staff, but the child can't equip the staff> He can only equip the dagger, Can the staff possess magic that can still help him?
How do you set up char's to join you along the way and become a part of your party? Variables?modes? Help me instahelp,lol

You should probably look at the equipt anyone with any weapon thread. There is very useful info in there. Also read in the RPGM3 manual where they go over events, the anwser is in there (or at least for characters joining your party.)
