View Full Version : Final Fantasy Creator on Xbox Next (360) - Is that a good thing?

Hmm, i don't know. I'm excited for sure.. but the last few FFs have been a total dissapointment. And we won't even start to talk about where Square has been going..

Hey, at least the guy is gonna make an RPG that doesn't have "Final Fantasy" in its title, just to make sales.
True, very true... Remember this is the guy behind the origonal Super Mario RPG, as well as Final Fantasy 6... and 7... Let's just forget "Spirit's Within"

So wait, does that mean that SquareEnix is doing something on the XboxNext, or that this schmo is?

Wait, if Final Fantasy is his creation, then why didn't he take it with him if he planned on being in some other company? (Hmm, I wonder what sort of job he'd do on a new FF game...)

Probably for the same reason the remaining Beatles don't own their music :|

Sakaguchi created the FF series, but it's legally owned by Square.
I always thought that FFIX and FFX were pretty b!tchin'.

I liked FFIX as well. But it does sound like their quality has downgraded some considering what most of you guys say. My only experience with Square games this generation is FFOrigins/FFI&II, FFX, and FFXI. The first was great though seriously dumbed down in the latter editon (kudos to the extra dungeons and extra storyline, though), FFX was great the first time through but meh most of the next playthroughs, and FFXI... Let's not get into that one.

I've never played XI, but based on all the FF's through X (sadly ignoring FFX-2), I think that the newer FFs are easily as strong as the old ones. I love FFVI, but its dialogue is nowhere near the quality of, say, FFIX, and the mechanics of its battle system, for example, are nowhere near as well-designed as those in FFX. I think a lot of people just let nostalgia take over for them. I mean, I absolutely LOVE FFIV. It's far and away my favorite FF game. But it's not the best FF game by any stretch of the imagination.

If nostalgia is ever 100% cause for disliking a new FF game, then there's a problem.
I think that IV and VI are the best games in the series but that you can't really compare them to the Playstation FF's because they are almost two different animals.

I felt that Final Fantasy IV, VI, and VII were, in every way, groundbreaking for their time. The "wow" factor is missing from the new ones.
VIII *did* have groundbreaking CG and a cool random card minigame, but the game itself was not much of an improvement over its predecessor.
IX was fun but, no "wow" factor at all.
X had some interest, but the biggest change was that characters talked instead of reading words, and it didn't feel to me like that added so much to the gaming experience.
I enjoyed them all, but I think we expect so much more from Square. We want to be "wow"-ed.

I haven't been wow'ed by them in a long time.
A long.
