    Happy Birthday, NES!

On this day, the 18th of October, twenty years ago, the first electronic games revolution since Atari's box was let loose onto the Western world. The birthplace of countless timeless franchises. The console that revived the then-dead Western gaming industry and changed it forever: The Nintendo Entertainment System. I believe we can all acknowledge how freaking awesome it was.

    Happy 20th, NES!

Feel free to talk about some memorable NES experiences you may have and/or how you came abouts to getting the console in the first place.

I think I have the circut bored for my NES in the attic somewhere. That's all that was left of it and we still played the **** out it.

          -favorite NES memories-
First night when my dad brought it home my brother and I are trying to teach him how to play Mario Bros. So we tell him to get the mushroom to get big, so he runs into a goomba and dies. He never plays it again. How many people have that exact same story?

My mom always swinging the controller around when she jumped or turning it when she played Mario Kart.

          Little Nemo.

Way back in the day. I'm sure it was one of those movies that I saw when I was a kid that was really Anime. I wouldn't mind owning it again. Now if only there was some kind of even that just recently occured where gift giving was the custom. Ah see la vive.

I remember when I first got my NES, I got Mario, DuckHunt and Ghostbusters. I remember getting a little sick when I was driving on those streets. And my efforts to get to the top of that building.

And I remember my first Nintendo Magazine, and the time when I got Dragon Warrior for free in the mail.

And I remember my fond memories of Maniac Mansion.....

I remember getting my first NES for Christmas in 1990. I know, I tuned into the NES scene late in its life. We only got Super Mario Bros. and Duckhunt, but I played the **** out of them. Then we got Tetris, and my dad monopolized the system. I had to kick him off a few times. But then we got Dr. Mario so we could play at the same time. I kicked his ass over and over again. Of course, we got Super Mario Bros. 3 like everyone else. Kirby's Adventure was my favorite game at the time it was released.

                    I LOVE MY NES.

                      Re: Happy Birthday, NES!

I got my first NES in '89. I was 5. I actually got two for Christmas that year, because my parents were divorced at the time and they didn't consult each other on gifts because they wouldn't even talk to each other. We had both of them until my mother got charitable and gave one to a friend who was too poor to get a system for her own kids. I still have the other one.

We at first, of course, had Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt. Then Tetris, and from there I couldn't even tell you. The games I remember the best are Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3, Bubble Bobble, Kickle Cubicle (a game I hadn't beaten until just recently), The Adventures of Lolo (with the worst boss battle ever), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 (I still haven't beaten 1), The Guardian Legend (another game I only beat recently), and uh... Magic Darts was cool. The sad thing is that out of all those games, the only ones I still have are the Mario games. And TMNT II, which I accidentally stole from a friend.

I stole SM2 from a friend. But he got my Mario Kart years later. I think he got the better end of the deal.

I remember when I got my NES. My uncle gave me his for Christmas, and he had about 30 games. It took me a couple of days just to try them all out. I didn't understand any of the RPGs, which would be ironic, except I was in like 3rd-4th grade at the time.

                            Ahh, the memories.

Nintendo Power was my bible. If I didn't renew my subscription Earth would've swallowed me whole.

But my most telling NES memory would have to be when I threw a tantrum because I wanted to stay home and finish Mario Bros. 3 and not have to go to church.
