The keyboard is usable. The HDD can two two things. One, you can save game to it, and two, it cuts down load times.

you cannot save directly to the HDD. you have to transfer the save off your memory card onto the HDD outside of RPG Maker 3. your RPG Maker 3 is 2.7MB no matter what, you cannot make it larger by using the hard drive.

You don't want the HDD. It'll cost you $100, and all RPGM3 does with it is reduce the load times a little. That's not worth the $100. Don't get it unless you were interested (and knew for very certain) in getting Final Fantasy Online.

Keyboards start for $10 for cheap-but-good USB keyboards. There's this keyboard-controller hybrid that's something like $40, if you don't want to bother with swapping the keyboard and controller from some time.

But yeah, a keyboard is necessary. Some of us here dealt with RPGM1, which did not have such support, so we can say that controller-typing is not very fun and VERY time-consuming. (Though you're less likely to make spelling mistakes.)

Yeah but if you make a mistake it doesn't take ery long to fix it.

An I love not having to press the button fifty times any more. You can hold it. In RPG Maker 2 you had to keep tapping it. It really got annoying.

Yeah I would get a keyboard if I were you.
