People (including myself) spend $10 or so on a ticket to go watch an hour and a half long movie. I would, and frequently do spend 5 times as much on videogames I know will give me about 25 hours of fun, involving gameplay. Sure, they're expensive, but it's all relative.
If you want to avoid it, wait until the games are old and buy a used copy for a lot less.
Now that I'm a cranky non-teenager living away from home, **** yes they are expensive. And **** yes, movies are way, way, way more expensive than they're worth.
But still, video games are expensive. It'd be more understandable if the not-so-great games came out at a bargain price, while the big ones were the expensive ones. Just like in the old days, when RPGs fequently released for $70+.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
I only buy games at full price a couple times a year and usually with someone else's money (birthday and Christmas presents). The rest of the time, it's the pre-owned section for me.
i had this exact thought yesterday as i was paying off a fire emblem pre-order.. $50 suddenly seemed like an exaggerated number for the price of a game.
I feel like I'm blowing money left and right just for stuff like food and ink cartridges and umbrellas. I'm too afraid to buy anything recreational until I've actually learned the value of a dollar.
