Pokemon Diamond & Pearl And Pokemon Ranger: Path to Diamond and Pearl

Seems that it is indeed a game for the DS. Not a main installment of the series, rather an action/RPG. Observe:

Is there a pic supposed to be showing up here? I saw it over at the other boad and it looks like it could be cool. I want to know what's up with the Pokemon Snap Pikachu there.

Uh, can anyone here read Japanese to tell me what that says?

Ayase: "I was sort of expecting you to be a little bigger. You look kind of weak."
Kazuma: "And in spite of the way you look, you seem to be a real b****."

I hope the gameplay is decent. I wouldn't really want a hack-and-slash Pokemon game, unless it was at least on the same quality level as the SNES Pocky and Rocky games.

Pocky and Rocky was more like a shooter though. This is an action RPG. I'm thinking it'll be something like Zelda but, you use the Pokemon to get past obstacles instead of items.

I'm happy to see that the day/night system is back. It wasn't in RSE, and that was a shame.

With the unique sunlight for each time of day instead of just day and night, it should make finding early-bird Pokemon much easier. When I played GSC, I had to wake up bright and early to even have a chance of finding a Ledyba, and was never really sure exactly what time it usually came out.

I'm also happy to see that there will be significant physical differences between males and females, at long last. Before this, only Nidoran differed with gender, and even evolved into completely different Pokemon. I suspect that there will be more Pokemon like the Nidoran in terms of evolution differences.

The Poketchi looks to be the best digital trainer assistant thus far. It even has the PokeGear form factor. I wonder why they're using monochrome LCD for it's screen, though. You'd think with the PokeNav, they'd have a more modern-looking display. But that's an insignificant issue.

It'd best have the Trainer Call function from that little contraption in FR/LG.

I'm sure the Pokemon Storage System is going to be a hell of a lot more intuitive. It just begs for touchscreen interactivity for easy sorting.

The day and night system sounds cool but, I think that's one of the things that turned me off about G/S. The only Pokemon game I didn't play all the way through. Timed events, growing berries, and stuff like that just make the game feel kind of bloated and inaccessible to me. That's why I like LG/FR better than G/S and R/S.

Are you talking about the VS seeker? I love that thing.

Okay, if they are not going to bring the graphics up to near N64 levels and make the battles 3d, then they had better give all the pokemon a crapload of animations, and...ARGH!

They need to innovate this freaking series VERY BADLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It doesnt look much better than the GBA versions, except everything is a little more "3dish looking".

And god if they dont come up with a full fledged Pokemon game for the next console incarnation i'm NEVER buying another Pokemon game again!

They could do SO MUCH MORE, but the series is becoming VERY stagnant!

Re: Pokémon Diamond/Pearl pics and info

The maps look like a 3D rendition of the GBA Pokemon graphics, and the battle screens aren't much of an improvement at all. The Pokemon don't look like they're animated, which isn't a surprise, considering they're needing the memory to hold over 400 Pokemon among other things. Seeing Day/Night return is a plus, and I'm hoping that the other features from G/S that were missing in Ruby and Sapphire make a comeback. Seeing a multitude of 2-on-2 battles would be great. There were way too few battles in the GBA games that were 2-on-2 (though Emerald had a decent amount). I couldn't help but notice that the site that posted those scans is called Pokemon France and the male trainer looks French.

I was under the impression that there was simply Morning, Day, and Night, with no real inbetween, meaning Pokemon like Ledyba could be found any time between 6-11AM.
I'm also happy to see that there will be significant physical differences between males and females, at long last.
I didn't notice that. I knew there was supposed to be some difference, but I had to pay attention to notice the difference.

At last! The height comparison was one of my favorite features of the GBA games, but it totally sucked that it was only comparing it to your character's size (I'm not sure, somewhere in 5 feet; gonna need to find a Pokemon in this Pokedex that's the same size).

I gave up on Pokemon with the first GBA versions. I'd been hoping/expecting it'd evolve (would be appropriate wouldn't it) but it was basically the same game, definitely with some enhancements but not enough was changed. Now they're moving to another more powerful system and still only making incremental improvements. Yellow is the last Pokemon I paid attention to.

What does Pokemon have to do in order to be innovative, out of curiosity? I can't really think of anything without drastically changing the formula. Or is that what it needs?
