D-D-Danger lurks behind you! There's a stranger out to find you!

A pal of mine sent me an episode of Ducktales in which Scrooge loses all his money in a computer. Or something. So he has to go INTO the computer thanks to A FLOPPY DISK and ELECTRITY or some ****.

It was pretty ridiculous but... awesome anyway. Y'know how Calvin and Hobbes sometimes turn really young when crippling nostalgia sets in?

    Yeah. It was like that.

    Duck Tales was phenomenal!

    The whole series.

They adapted many original Carl Barks stories and even had real comic book creators on the production staff.

I taped the whole thing on Beta when it was airing. Still have it somewhere, too.

The episode you mention was not even one of their best. Look for it while cartoon hunting, it's worth it!

    Peace.

When I was very tiny, my dad would let me read his old Carl Barks duck books. That's one of the reasons I learned to read at a very early age. I also remember the more recent Don Rosa stories, he has a great style.

I couldn't stop watching Ducktales when I was a kid, it was a really great show. Well, it was until that damn caveman showed up... Bubba duck was it? I didn't care for Webby either, since she was just throw in there by the execs.

That series was pretty sweet, until it jumped the shark. I was nothing but a toddler when it aired I think.

I watched Ducktales every day when I was five, and my Mom taped a whole bunch of episodes for me which I still have to this day. I'm glad she did.

My favourite was an episode where the witch, Magika, cast a spell on everyone that made their worst fears come true. It was pretty darn cool. Doofus got chased by a giant evil banana, if I remember correctly.

Gotta love them kid shows. Where else will you find a doofus being chased by an evil fruit?

When I was selling my comix on eBay I actually got an email from Don Rosa because I started a listing with this paragraph:

This auction is for a still sealed in it's shrink wrap limited edition boxed set of the first batch of comic books actually published by The Walt Disney Corporation itself. Back in 1990 they saw the success of Gladstone Publishing and figured there was no reason to let others publish their comics anymore. Sadly they alienated many of their best talents by so doing, including Don Rosa whose work from this point on would be published first in Europe, and only after that allowed to be published here!

He thanked me for reminding people and said he liked my Philosophy.

I reminded him of the time we met at a comic book convention and I missed getting a sketch by him because I was a dealer and he always put the customers first.

He was swamped and had no time for my sketch.

I understood at the time and thanked him anyhow, I agreed that the Fans should come first, even though I was a fan myself.

But I email reminded him about that and he said he was not accepting commissions anymore, but to look for him at local comics shows.

I never did see him again... gotta keep a closer watch on the local convention scene. I want that sketch!

              Peace.

That's pretty much how my childhood relationship with my dad worked as well.

That's cool, Kefka. My dad had a lot of adult comics (Zap, Fabulous Furry Freak Bros, Conan) and some regular super hero stuff, too. He knew the duck comics (and his old 70's spiderman issues) were probably the best ones for our fledgling minds.

Even before I could read every word, I'd look at the art and try to figure out the words in context with the story. It really encouraged me to keep at it so I could eventually decipher all those word balloons!

Rodak, that's very cool that Don Rosa e-mailed you! I would be thrilled at the chance to shower him with fanboy praise. I LOVE his super-detailed art, and the way he illustrates the backgrounds and settings. He breathes new life into those characters whenever he takes up the pen.

This past summer, my dad sorted all of his comic books into boxes, two or three big TV-sized boxes. Mostly Marvel stuff, but a bunch of Batman and Justice League stuff, too. I haven't taken as good a look as I should've, but I remember seeing #2 of Silver Surfer and an issue of Fantastic Four were Doctor Doom shrinks the Four, an issue that I saw going for fifty bucks at a comic book store in New York.

I dunno if he plans on selling them, but before anything happens I plan on reading all of them. I decided to start with Conan for some reason.

Say, anyone have that Carl Barks image where Donald is in pain and screaming in l33t or something?

Dad's got some rare stuff in there. Or, at least, famous issues. Like the Daredevil where Bullseye kills Elektra, which was actually pretty cool because the story was told exclusively from Bullseye's point of view and so Elektra's death wasn't really treated like a big deal. Too bad Frank Miller's latest (Batman & Robin w/ Jim Lee) isn't up to snuff... at all...

But yeah, my pal is from Cypress (Greek island somewhere...?) so he grew up on all the European comics including the Don Rosa books I think. So I downloaded all the cartoons and he's gonna get the Ducktales DVD which is gonna come out on...

                      November 8th!

HOLY ****! I need to get that! And they're going to have Rescue Rangers too!!!!!!! And Gargoyles (which I knew about, but haven't been able to find anywhere offline).

Hmm, Tale Spin and Darkwing Duck aren't on that list. Technically, that's a good thing. The DVDs already out are going to cost near $100 for me.

I have a german Duck Tales comic book. It was my nephew's from when my sister and her family were living in Germany but they left it at my house the last time they visited.

I loved DuckTales, Magika was my favorite character and Fenton Crackshell (I think that was his name).

...They need to turn Scrooge's misadventures into feature films.
