    More Fighting

I went to the AAU (Ameatuer Athletic Union) Brazilian Ju-Jitsu national tournament and took home 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal. The rules really sucked, if you were on the ground for 10 seconds then they would stop the fight, even if you were working a submission or if you were in a triangle. Whenever they would stop the fight you would have to stand back up and start the match. I had to fight one of the kids on my own team in all 3 divisions because i was fighting at 140 lbs. There was Gi, No Gi, and freestyle which implemented striking. I kept on losing the no gi to my friend because he has a strong background in wrestling and he would get a takedown and be on the ground long enough for him to get points then we would get stood beck up. The rules were very striking ang judo oriented IMO. In Gi grappling i lost one match to this judo kid but then i beat the wrestling kid with an armbar. In freestyle i had to fight this kid 3 years older than me and he was a kickboxer. I got a bloody nose and got guillotined and started crying. That basically sums it up.

Ouch...I have to find a new school since my Choy Li Fut sifu skipped down (the old rat).

I think I'm going to go to this XMA school, it's not REAL martial arts but it's still a workout and it's really cheap so I'm happy.

you should think about capoeira, it WILL teach you distance and get you a hell of a lot more of a workout than xma bs, it is also something you could use to fight.

capoeira will also teach you to maintain your structure.

If anyone is interested, they should look at the website bullshido.com, check the throwdown section to see if there is an informal cross training event in your area.

We have one next weekend the 16th in nyc at the fighthouse (check website but It is 27 w 22nd st, or 22 w 27th street to be sure, I know it is on the second floor) but it doesn't look like so great a turn out. the time is not yet posted, but they usually start around 11 or 12 in the afternoon. I myself might not even make this one, I won't know till friday.

at a throwdown you can set your own rules, go hard, full power, just grappling/subs, just stand up, full MMA rules whatever you feel comfortable, but it gives you the opportunity to cross train so you don't have muai thai guys landing roundhouses on your face (which is actually more of an insult that it landed, unless you were going for a shoot and got hit with a low kick).

Actually I really want to do capoeira, there was a club at the school that did it however I cannot find out a damn thing about it, I even sent them my email three times and still no word. Other than that there are like no schools around

depending on where you are in Long Island, you could always take the LIRR to NYC.
