    Avatar: Last Airbender

Started tonight, and it'll play again at 8 EST. Looks like it's a mini-series. Joygasm.

So far, I'm liking the animation, and the voice-acting is pretty nifty.
    ...and that's why.

Good thing it's re-playing at 8. I've been pretty interested, but I have feeling it's gonna be... ugh.

    WE'LL SEE.

I dunno, I'm really really liking this. But this is just the premiere episode.. They may just quit on the quality after this.

...What does Smallville have to do with this?

It looks like it has more to do with Totoro and Teen Titans.

From the looks of the previews, it looks like it'll keep up with the animation quality at least.

I just caught the end whichever episode, where the Avatar fights the fire dude. Yeah, that is slick animation.

How weird. Before this, the writers seemed to have only worked on things like Mission Hill and King of the Hill.

The animation is slick and nice but the writing and story seems too... childish. Every time story happened I was bored but the fight scenes were imaginitive.

It has four-armed penguins. It wins.

Man, this topic would rock if it contained some information on what Avatar was for those of us who don't know what it is?
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

I really like the animation and fight scenes.

My bro and I cought it around the time he fought the Firebender as well.

                        Re: Avatar: Last Airbender

It's a new ACTION/ADVENTURE show on Nickelodeon that's stylistically very much in the vein of Miyazaki movies (My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke) fantasy anime like Escaflowne, and Cartoon Network's anime-inspired Teen Titans. A "chosen one", a 12-year old named Eng, encounters a tribe of people in the South Pole who are harrassed by the belligerent Fire Nation. Eng, a skilled Air Bender (one who can control the Element of Wind) befriends two of the tribe children, a girl (a possible WATER Bender) and her stuck-up brother, and anime wackiness and adventure ensues.

Though it sometimes suffers from a low frame rate its animation is smooth, clean and crisp. It looks pretty good, even the character designs. The creature designs (so far) not so much, but that's my OH-PIN-NYON. Even the action is inspired and exciting for the most part. Being an animation fan, this is probably the main/only reason for me to watch.

What bugs me about it is that all evidence points to this being geared ONLY to kids. Really young kids. The writing and story has definitely got this second grade dime-store book feel to it and there's no depth to it that I can discern. However, for a kid's show there's an awful lot of talking and plot development and all of it is slow. I got bored. The pacing is not very good and the action is usually fleeting.

I gotta hand it to Nickelodeon and the writers though for even attempting this.

                          I liked it. A lot.

AND SMALLVILLE HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH IT.

The first episode of that horrible show, looked great, the rests of the episodes looked like they only had 10 dollars.
