Yeah, it comes out tomorrow, and it looks sweet. So far, it has been getting exceptional grades.

DUDE.
I wanna play this. How'd you get the demo at Gamestop? Do you have to pre-order the game?

I don't like action adventure games that lack in charm or originality. Visually so far, this is lacking in both.

Meh, just take a gander at the video interviews of David Jaffe. When was the last time there was an actually good action/adventure? The genre is pretty much extinct. Plus the whole idea of an game base off of greek mythology has been done like what, two times?
Yeah, I pre-ordered it at gamestop.

*suddenly wonders where Metal Gear Solid 3, Resident Evil 4, Splinter Cell, Ico, Prince of Persia and every other mascot game disappeared to*
I don't consider any of those action/adventure. Except maybe PoP, the other ones stand by themselves in my opinion.
That being said, I would be interested in this if my Playstation 2 worked.

That's absurd!!!! How do they not fit in any certain genre?
I didn't say they didn't fit into any certain genre, you could call them action/adventure, stealth, survival horror, platformer; its just that I don't consider MGS3 an action/adventure. It's bigger than simply an action adventure game.
If you see someone reading Lord of the Rings do you ask them, "Oh, are you a fan of fantasy novels?" or do you ask them, "Oh, are you a fan of Lord of the Rings" or "Are you a fan of J.R.R Tolkien." I guess it's just me but some things stand above all the rest like it and are more than just the genre.

I played the demo in OPM. It seems like a well made DMC/Rygar/Castlevania LOI clone, but it's not something that exites me.
At this point(ie until FFXII) I'm just looking to play games that are fun and I can pick them up and play for an hour or so and put them down. That's why this one, and that Gladiator one intrigue me.

Shadow of Rome doesn't look too bad but I wouldn't pay $50 for it.
That goes without saying. But beating it in a weekend for $5 thanks to Blockbuster. I can do that.

I got the demo in the mail from PlayStation Underground. I really liked it! :D
It's got that 'arcade feel' I miss from games. Also, the commentary and behind the scenes stuff the demo came with were nice to have, too.

Yeah, there's a sexual mini-game that Kratos encounters....yeah...don't ask.
I'll probably pick this up and the new TimeSplitters at my lunch break. I'll have to wait till 9 tonight to play them... :shakefist
Hm...Filter or some other gaming show had a 30 minute thing on this.
It seemed pretty interesting, but it just doesn't seem to have anything to flow on. Just a bam kinda deal.
Which makes me think that without a hype to live up to, it might do well. But at the same time, without a hype, there's not really anything to expect.
Looks alright though.

It is an awesome game, and so far, the only people that hate it are the ones that dont want a PS2 hack and slash equated with Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox, because God of War is BETTER.

I loved Ninja Gaiden
Man now I have to think about buying it
I thought it was just an action/adventure but now it's compared with Ninja Gaiden..

GoW puts Ninja Gaiden to shame in being just plain Awesome!
Would you saw the awesome is so plain that it becomes common awesome, or as I like to call it, CAWESOME???
Jeroak Nelave
03-27-2005, 03:05 PM
huh?
I just did not really like Ninja Gaiden at all, it wasnt very fun to me, but GoW is better than pretty much anything in its genre, if it is even in a current genre. I think the closest things i can be equated to are NG and DMC, and it is better than both (but then again, i may be slightly biased, because out of NG, DMC, and GoW; NG is my least fave, PS2 fanboy that i am).
Eh, nothing...
So is it really fast-paced and combo-driven like DMC? Or is it like a 3D beat-em-up remniscent of Golden Axe?
Jeroak Nelave
03-27-2005, 03:15 PM
It is pretty fast paced, but also has you solving puzzles and things like that, it does have combo meter and stuff, but I really cant remember how much the combo's affect the game(or maybe i'm mistaken about the combo meter from playing too much Shining Tears).
Are they fun-to-solve intelligent puzzles or the kind that made you want to rip out your dog's tongue?(Speaking mainly of time-consuming RPG puzzles with random battles inserted at every two second interval)
Or just plain easy puzzles?
Anything but the center option would be fine
Jeroak Nelave
03-27-2005, 03:37 PM
Most of them are not that difficult. There was one puzzle i did that i had to make a bridge to get to another section, and i could not figure out how to get across. I had to ask for help on a message board, and once i was told, it was the most obvious simple puzzle you have ever seen...but i was stumped. Those kind of puzzles, atleast so far.
Oh, those puzzles. They always make me feel like a worthless pile of lint.

I dunno if it's better than Ninja Gaiden but so far it is very, very cool. I will lay this down though:
It is definitely what Onimusha 3 should've been like.

HENRI.
Onimusha 3's opening movie is art. The game that came with it was sort of a bonus I guess.
But I mean, God of War shares a lot of similarities with the Onimusha series than anything IMHO. DMC and Ninja Gaiden and GoW are all spawn of Onimusha in my eyes and GoW plays like an Onimusha sequel that should've been. It's what Onimusha should've evolved into.
Am I making sense? :|
Not really....DMC was very fast-paced while Onimusha I was more like a cross of DMC and Resident Evil.

Yes. All those series are basically where Onimusha should have gone. It was promising series... once.
Still, I'm glad to see GoW is a good slicing people up in the most awesome way possible.
I love the kill button combos. They don't get old. It feels like a part of the gameplay and not a cheap device.

Just buy the game, or rent it at least. It's easily one of the best games ever made. Great sound track, great combat and adventuring, terrific story, and probably the best graphics you'll see on the PS2... And trusting a sword into a Minotaur’s mouth is one of the great joys in life that can't be missed.
I much more enjoy ripping off Medusa's head. Of course by the same vein ripping off harpy wings is exponentially more fun.

The animation for killing the wraiths, not the throwing one, but the ripping its arm off and ramming it through its torso is incredible. The game for the Satyrs is awkward, you have to button mash like a champion to win that one, and it doesn't even kill it.
And what is a Satyr exactly, I used to fairly interesting in mythology but I don't remember what these things were?
Satyr's were forest demigods. They had the hind end of a goat or a deer or some forest creature.

Has anyone beat the game yet and tried the Challenge of the Gods? i'm doing that and it is psychotically hard. There are 10 challenges, and apparently challenges 2 and 8 are insane, and i cannot get through them. Anyone tried this yet?
The Dark Jester
04-01-2005, 10:09 PM
Devil May Cry was partly inspired by Onimusha.
I guess during testing of Onimusha there was some glitch where they could knock an enemy into the air and keep hitting it or something.
Thats where DMCs combos and aerial combos came from.
Holy crap. I just beat it...and that was one of, if not THE, finest game experience I've ever played. Engrossing story, beautiful visuals, kickass gameplay, fun puzzles, genius game design...wow. So this is what a great game with a killer budget is like.
I can't wait for the next one.

The game really does get more satisfying as you play it. For the most part. More skills, more enemies, and more gruesome kills. It's like, a fight can be getting really tough, and you're like COME ON, and then you pull off a fanTASTIC kill and your like Ooooh YEAHHH.
But Sirens don't live in the desert.
Are deserts even mentioned in Greek mythology?
Chrono
04-14-2005, 01:12 PM
Eh, probably not, they had to be original somewhere.
And The Challenge of the Gods is making me HATE this game, yet love it at the same time. Challenge 2 isn't difficult at all; each challenge has its own strategy which makes it very easy. BUT, challenge 8 is nothing short of the work of Satan. The instructions are simply kill all the enemies. There are four gorgons and 8 armored legionnaires that continually respawn for at least a half hour. I've killed all of the legionnaires a couple of times but can never kill all of the gorgons. It wouldn’t be as hard if they didn’t have their freeze beam…:shakefist

has anyone beaten this game
Kefka Jr.
04-20-2005, 12:38 PM
Yes.
The puzzles are EXTREME buzzkills. God. I died by falling off of things way more than I was actually killed by something.
But the whole last stretch of the game is sooo cool.
I haven't tried God Mode yet. A normally hardcore friend of mine said he was brutalized in the first part of the first stage.
And the only extras I've checked was the unused character thing, which was neat. And funny.
taizon, I just said I beat it.
Chrono
04-20-2005, 03:26 PM
As did I.
I loved the puzzles. Yeah, most of them relied on block pushing, but they were still incredibly fun to me.
I love all of the DVD style making-of featurettes. The character graveyard is really cool. CYCLOPS PENIS!!!! Classic! :lol
And I thought it was really sweet how they basically promised a sequel or prequel at the end of the game. KRATOS WILL RETURN...just like in the Bond movies. And the Birth of the Beast shows what the next game will be like. I hope they open it up a bit, like an open world similar to Zelda games. With towns and villages you can visit. That would really help to eliminate the linearity of the game.

i beat it about 2 weeks ago, but i traded it in recently because no matter what i did i could not get through the challenge of the gods. I wanted the costumes, so i could use them to play through the harder modes, but NOOOOOO, no such luck, it is a pain in the *** so i just traded it in.
I'll pick it up again when it goes down to $20.

I played it pretty much non-stop, and it's not bad for an action game. It took me a day and a half roughly, but that's cause of the non-stop playing; it was about eight and a half hours.
I have just two complaints. Lack of bosses, and Pandora's Temple.
I mean, Jesus. The first act was short, and had a couple of fun hydras, and a boss. The rest of the acts were long as hell. And how many bosses were there? Like, none! I think there were about 3 bosses in the whole damn game. And Pandora's Temple? Dammit, why did it have to be so looooooong! Granted, the areas in the temple were different enough so that it could be long. If it weren't for the fact I had to return to the Rings of Pandora about four times, I wouldn't have hated it. But that was a slap in the face that reminded me... "Hey... I'm STILL in this temple."
I've only beaten it on Hard mode so far, gonna try God mode soon. I tried the Challenge of the Gods last night. After I finished Challenge 4, I tried to exit and save cause it was 3 AM, but I couldn't find the option. So I just cut it off, since the first four were damn easy. But I heard the last three are hard, namely 8 and 10.
Oh, and this game had a lot of breasts in it. The first time or two I was just shocked, but after about the 5th time, it's not as surprising.

Challenge of the Gods was a joke. The only ones worth the time were 8 and 10. 8 was more fun than hard, and 10 was kinda tricky. I saved my Rage of the Gods for 10 cause I heard you were supposed to... but never used it. I should've used it on 8 like I wanted to. Oh well.
Started up God mode and got to the Gates of Athens and cut it off for the night.
