    College Bound

As my senior year begins, I have to start applying to colleges. So far on my list are USC, Pepperdine, UoA, TCU, and possibly University of the Pacific. Why private schools and not state schools? 'Cause state schools teach a different kind of business than I want to learn. Kind of sucks too, since so many UCs are regarded fairly well and would be pretty cheap.

Anyone else in the college bound boat with me? Or did any go (goes) to the colleges I mentioned? I'd love to hear more about them.

My avice on College comes from my wallett.

Consider Community College for the first two years.

It is literally ten times cheaper and the credits are the same. Most professors at mine had their PhDs and due to smaller classes I think you can actually get a better education for less money.

Best of luck with it, and Don't Quit!!

    Peace.

Dude, the whole community college thing is bull****. Suck it up and pay for the full college experience. Unless you want to be a community college person.

        Befriend Caffeine.

        And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road

There's nothing wrong with going to community college for the first two years. Granted it's not what I do, nor would I want to (what I do is close enough, anyway, though), but as long as you're going somewhere after it's really not a big deal.

I know several people that got their required stuff out of the way and then went to a university. It makes a lot of sense financially. The notion of paying more for "the full college experience" is the only bull**** here.

What experience are you speaking of? Drinking beer and watching sports? Partying with idiots and getting wasted/laid? The fun of sharing a tiny place with some other random jerk? You can do all those things in the really real world, too.

There's nothing wrong with community colleges. My dad wanted to be a producer, so he went to a community college that offered a better program than any university out there.

He paid off his expenses working part-time while taking classes, and never had to pay off any student loans. Now he pulls down 90k a year as a TV producer and doesn't owe anyone a cent of it ('cept the gumyment). His friends who opted to go to university for the same thing ended up working **** freelance for home movies and pornos for 15 years to pay off their student loan.

Make of it what you will, but if you have the skillset you need and you have a desire to do what you want to do, it won't matter how much you paid for a sheet of paper with your name on it.

Yes, yes, yes and yes. And yes you can do all those things in the real world, but then you would have to do them in the real world with all the real world pressures. There's a certain freedom when your hardest class is College Algebra that you don't have when you're taking a junior or senior level class. Go to football games. Go to club meetings. Join a frat or sorority. Play intramural frisbee golf. Just hang out and beat your entire dorm floor in Madden. And do it all without having to worry about the four hours of reading you have to do for your History of Mass Media quiz.

Different strokes for different folk, but I say if you have a choice go for four years at a University. Community College is just the 13th grade.

People told me college would be a blast.

... But then, they said that about high school, too.

I think most people that join frats and sororities are the ones trying to re-live their high school years... and all the clique business/social BS therein. Plus, you have to pay to have these special friends. That's just sad.

College Algebra is taught in High School these days.

                          So is Calculus.

                          But about Community Colleges...

I was in college at the "right age" but my Father lost his job and asked me to help him run a business.

                          That wasted 15 years.

When he wanted to retire we closed down and I went back to school.

I could only afford community college. I was in my thirties and refused student loans. Not when I could pay for it.

I blew all my savings and supported myself by tutoring and working the New York, Philadelphia, and Delaware comic book convention circuits.

I pulled out 2 Associate degrees (Chemistry and Philosophy) and went broke.

So I went to work. I quickly landed a job in charge of the labs for a Chemical Manufacturer in New Jersey and have been there for 9 years. I beat out people with real Bachelor Degrees for that job. It seemed that when the boss started talking Chemistry, I was the only one of the applicants who could keep up.

You get out of it what you put in to it.

And to all those who Poo-Poo Community Colleges, I say Thee Nay!

My Philosophy Professor wrote the textbook we used in Logic class and it is used Nationwide.

My Organic Chemistry Professor has a reaction named after her.

There is nothing wrong with Community Colleges except for those who are not concerned with getting an Education.

If you are not there to learn, don't take up space. There are people out there who want to take advantage of what Colleges have to offer and spoiled disruptive children who are there simply because mommy and daddy are paying anger me.

I don't mind who pays for you being there, but I found that the spoiled and disruptive ones were very rarely paying for it all themselves.

                          Just an observation.

                          Peace.

My college is pretty much a community college ++. I had the generic college experience at a large university for 2.33333 years and all I have to say about it was, it cost a lot of money.
