    Tactics Maker?

This was posted on a different thread, but it got me to thinking (a rare occurence). Suppose Agetec made a Tactics Maker? It would be, in theory, much easier to program then RPG Maker 3; simply make the battle map editor and "cutscene" editor the same graphics (a la Vandal Hearts and Final Fantasy Tactics). As tactics games are for number crunching anyway, all Agetec needs to make is a battle system, a map editor, attack animations, and a class editor. As they don't need to program battles, it would be shorter then making an actual tactics game, and much easier then RPG3, as they don't need the lifesize models (little people forever!), and the map editor would be quite easy to make. I personally would be content with Final Fantasy Tactics graphics, and would prefer a tactics maker greatly over RPG3 (no offense.) If enough of you agree, I'll start up a petition to tell agetec about what we think.

    Re: Tactics Maker?

I always had an idea of doing a tactics game for RPGM2. It would flow like a regular tactics game. But creating smart/balanced enemy A.I. would be a pain in the ass for a tactics game.

I forgot about A.I. Actually, though, if you use the old RPG1 system (90% attack, 10% magic, etc.) it shouldn't be too terribly hard. I tested it one time when playing FFT and the enemy actions, when broken into percentages, usually were multiples of ten.

I remember catching sight of either a Strategy RPG Maker or Tactics RPG Maker for the Sega Saturn. Of course, this was before we got RPGM1 and it got popular here, so we never got it.

I almost went and bought it, but I was (thankfully) reminded that I'd have no way of showing off anything I make on it.

All the more eaiser for some company to make it. Any sort of place where gamers tell game desginers what kind of games they would buy? You know, like a survey?

if you have ideas for RPG Maker games, you can post in the general forum over at agetec's forum. agetec has aided in the creation of the games that have come out since RPG Maker 1, so suggestions to them may pay off. just dont make a petition.

Programming for it will be way harder than rpgm3, guaranteed.

As far as things go, it'd be cool, but I'm also sure many problems/complaints would arise and wouldn't turn out so good. For example, fairly quickly every user would know exactly what the default AI will do, and people would either be forced to have a crappily easy or super-maddening hard game, or script the AI themselves (given we even get the option).

The other thing is that strategy rpgs are less popular in number than rpgs even.

                  Re: Tactics Maker?

i would love for a tactics maker game to come out, however, creating a game in that vein would limit flexability, because the genre of the game has already been stamped.

kind of like what i'm hearing with rpg maker 3(i don't own it yet, unfortunately), you can make a great traditional rpg with it, but not much else.

rpg maker 1 & 2. while both were essentially built to make role-playing games, there were ways to bend the rules, so to speak, and create platforming or action-based games or whatever.

i think what you want, is an easier way to construct a tactics-style battle system within the existing options we have: rpgm2 & xp(i would assume). or maybe that's just what i want.
