    Losing Interest

Yeah, I've become a real picky b!tch when it comes to games lately. Maybe it's that my tastes are maturing, or that I'm just losing interest.

Either way, I really can't complain. I still have games I love. I'm just very critical lately, while keeping an eye out for the sleeper hits and unique titles. Why did Dragon Quarter go unoticed? WHY?

I think pretty much everyone does that as they get older.
"At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. "For the first time, I finally understand what Monet was trying to get across in her work."

Well, I happen to have liked every game I've played, and still do. There are some games I haven't played in a while though. It's not because they don't interest me, it's just that I somehow always have a new game to play.

When I graduated from High School, I got a bunch of money...I used it to buy five different games...I still have yet to play one of them...More recently though, I went to work with my dad, and got a bit of money, which I used to buy some more games...I still haven't played some of those yet...The main reason I bought them then is because those games have been out for a while, and I wanted to get them new...and my birthday was last week...so I got even MORE games...

Anyway...I currently have 11 games that I haven't played yet...(7 Gamboy Advance, 2 Gamecube, 1 Playstation One, and 1 Playstation Two)

That's so weird, having too many games to play...

Like I said though, I have enjoyed every game I have played...to different degrees...but I still enjoyed them nonetheless.

I always will just put down a game for 6 months then pursue it with fresh intrest. Saves me money.

It happens consciously and subconsciously. Each new game you play will unfortunetly and inevitably have to be compared to every game that you have played before it. Even if you are truly subjective with a game, you will only come to understand how a person could have fun with it and not necessarily have fun with it yourself. You will only come to enjoy games more again by finding out exactly what things you like in games and for specficially what reasons. Then you need to find new things to like in the games themselves.

The Katamari series has resparked my interest in games. Before they came along, I thought everything good about games was somewhere in the past.

                  Re: Losing Interest

I think there's a number of factors that cause one to lose some interest in games.

One is the tendency to compare any given gaming experience to previous gaming experiences. The same happens with games in a series. In the latter instance, it's hard not to compare the first game with the second. If the second doesn't live up to, if not surpass, the first, you pass up the third, and probably even the fourth. This happened to me with Tenchu, Devil May Cry, Breath of Fire (Though I did borrow BoF3, and never finished it) and a couple other series.

I think another factor is that the early to mid twenties is a time when you're probably reprioritizing. Games used to be a fairly high priority when your parents were supporting you and school was pretty much mandatory and free. Now that you're choosing to spend thousands of dollars on an education, or getting yelled at by some guy to wake up at 6:00 AM every morning in the military, you realize that you really don't have time for games, nor the money for them.

One more factor is that you come to the realization that the game you buy today for $50 is going to actually be just as good a few months down the road in the $20 bin, and you've got other games to bide your time until then most likely, either that or you find a game you want for $20, to keep you busy until that day comes.

Oh yeah, in the past two weeks I've bought Silent Hill 4, Indigo Prophacey, We Heart Katamari, and X-Men Legends, and I've yet to play any of them.
