    RPGMaker 3 description

    Hi there,
This is my first time posting though I've been lurking for a while. I have a pretty strange request here. You see I'm currently doing the full time college/work thing right now so I don't have the time to tinker with RPGMaker 3. I haven't yet purchased it and I probably won't until spring or summer in 2006. So I was wondering if it would be too much if I asked to get some details on what the game provides so that I can begin writing an outline for a game concept that is bouncing around in my head. So to give you a general idea as to what I want to eventually create its sort of a Faerie Tale Horror. Story wise I want to make something meshing Chrono Trigger, Fatal Frame and ICO to create my games mood. Think of the Grimm brothers fairytales strung together into a cohesive story. Anyways here it goes...

Are there different options for npcs that can make them look more like undead?

Are there horror inspired objects like tombstones available in the game?

I've seen some pics showing traps. What kinda traps are available and how do they operate?

    What do Skills do? Examples?

How much can you control the light source in a dungeon?

Is there a "fog" weather effect or anything like that?

Can you attach towns to dungeons to other dungeons with doorways or do you have to use the world map?

Are all the dungeons indoors or can you create outdoor scenarios like a forest or swamp? If so can someone provide a list?

How much control do you have over object placement on the world map?

What is the controller layout like? Is there an action button like in RPGMaker 2? Are there character animations you can link it to like in some of the Breath of Fires?

Ive seen sreenshots. Is anyone ever going to post a Music list in files?

Thats all for now. Thank you your time and help.

I'll do my best to answer your questons here.

Are there different options for npcs that can make them look more like undead?
From what I've seen , alot of the color schemes for each character model makes those characters look evil or undead. So you could use those.

Are there horror inspired objects like tombstones available in the game?
    Yup.

I've seen some pics showing traps. What kinda traps are available and how do they operate?
Traps operate in dungeons. You trigger it by moving your character onto the event. Since They're invisible, you don't know when you'll set one off. They can range from spears flying at you, or hammers suddenly slamming you from the ceiling. You can also adjust the amount of damage the trap does to your party.

    What do Skills do? Examples?
Skills are specific attacks the Class/Person can do. For example, you can make someone cast a Bolt spell, create the effect, designate how much MP (or of it's a physical skill- HP) and the amount of damage it would do.

How much can you control the light source in a dungeon?
There are lighting options for dungeons. You can make it bright, regular or dark.

Is there a "fog" weather effect or anything like that?
There are weather options in the game. I'm not sure but I believe so.

Can you attach towns to dungeons to other dungeons with doorways or do you have to use the world map?
Yes, you can make a building in a town that enters into a dungeon.

Are all the dungeons indoors or can you create outdoor scenarios like a forest or swamp? If so can someone provide a list?
All dungeons are indoors. You can switch the tile scheme to them.

How much control do you have over object placement on the world map?
You can pretty much put any object anywhere you like.

What is the controller layout like? Is there an action button like in RPGMaker 2? Are there character animations you can link it to like in some of the Breath of Fires?
The controls are the same in every game. X is pretty much the action button I suppose. There are character animations that you can assign to townspeople, but not to the actial character your playing.

Ive seen sreenshots. Is anyone ever going to post a Music list in files?
If someone does, then yipee skippy!!

Actually: bright, medium, dark, orange, cyan, purple, emerald, or pulsing red and medium.

Also, there is a fog weather effect. Very cool, actually.

Thanks for your comments Omnislash. For the most part it sounds like RPGMaker 3 can handle what I want to make. Sucks that you can't make outdoor dungeons though. Perhaps I can use towns to create those kind of environments depending on how much you can modify them. I was sorta hoping for character animations like pushing, pulling, climbing since my game concept has puzzle elements like many survival horrors but oh well.

I wonder if you can make event options with the story teller mode to create stuff sorta like the scenes in Resident Evil 4 where you have to hit the right button to survive it. And I totally agree with your coment on the Music File thing. If someone was to compile that kind of list it would be incredibly helpful to people who can't get RPGMaker 3 yet but still want to outline a script for a game idea.

Oh wow thanks Dyre. Those light/color options can open up a lot of options for mood. Can you reset them using events like the trick with the floor textures? Verry inspiring.

If there is any other info that might come to mind on these subjects please feel free to post about it.

        thanks again!

Specifically, for traps, there's spears from the floor, hammers from the ceiling, arrows from in front of you, lava floor-things, something pointy from in front of you, and ceiling spears. And I don't know about resetting the lighting styles, probably, though.

Potentially, you could create an outdoor dungeon using a field map, though you'll probably want to surround your paths with tall ridges. You wouldn't likely create a dungeon using a town; I don't think random battles are possible on them, though I haven't checked yet.
