    IQ?

The only time I had an IQ test was when I was the 10th grade and my guidence counselor would not give me the results.

I dont put any value into the number but I think it would be interesting to know.

I see all these IQ test adviertised online and was wondering if anyone has taken one. Are they the real thing?

If anyone can suggest anything, I would appreciate it.

    Re: IQ?

Well, let's put it this way: I've taken two separate online IQ tests, and on the first one I got a 124 whereas in the second one I scored a 95. So, if you want a definitive answer, take the real thing. These online tests ain't got no consistency.

It's the opposite for me. I've never been officially tested, but I've taken several online I.Q. tests (ranging from short two or three minute ones to a forty minute test), and I average about 160 on them. The lowest I ever got was 135 on a ten minute, and the highest I ever got was a 182 on a thirty minute. I always figured I was somewhere around 160 anyways, so when people ask, that's what I tell them.

Having a high I.Q. isn't exactly all in the plus, though. A generally accepted view of I.Q.s are that the higher you score, the higher your intelligence, but the lower your common sense. I put on a pretty good face about common sense most of the time, but I am severely lacking in that regard. My brother is the only one who truly understands this about me, because he's blessed with an overabundance of common sense (streetwise, you might call it), but it takes far more work for him to grasp concepts than it takes for me.

We'd be a great team if we could just work together.

As for whether I think there is any validity to an I.Q., I think there is. My room mate has been officially tested, and she got a 186. I've seen her report, so I know she isn't just bull****ting me. She does retain knowledge a bit easier than I do, but the girl is a mega klutz and has no concept of the 'real world.' She's also fairly eccentric, which is a common thing among high I.Q. people.

So yeah, I think most cases constitute an I.Q. test as a good way to measure actual capacity for intelligence.

        Re: IQ?

online tests are BS, since your IQ is measured in HOW you answer questions just as much as if you answer them correctly.

I scored "dumb as bricks" on my last IQ test, or was it that game where you remove the pegs by jumping them and you try to get to the point where you have just one left? Eh, I can't remember.

According to IQ tests I'm as smart as a tomato.
(then again, I just fly through the tests in 5 minutes..)
I fail to see how one's overall IQ can be disected through graphical 'logic' problems and questions.
Then again I'm a tomato so I'll shut the hell up.

                Re: IQ?

Your IQ level doesn't represent how smart you are or how much you know as much as it tells you how fast you are at learning something. As Valk said, you are graded at how you answer the question.

And a lot of people ask what IQ stands for. If you don't know, Intelligence Quotient. If you already know, happy birthday.

IQ tests are total bull, I've scored as low as 50 and as high as 180.

I've never taken one because I'm afarid I won't have a high enough score to get into Mensa. I think you need an IQ over 200?

Besides IQ is bull. It only measures one asspect of intelligence, and gives no real baring on how smart you are.

                      I've averaged around 120.

                      So, yeah.

Lord no. To get into Mensa you have to be beyond +2 standard deviations on the normal distribution, which means an IQ of 133 gets you in.

Still, the average IQ is 100 by definition. An IQ of 132 on the Stanford-Binet (one of the most well-known and commonly-used IQ tests) puts you in the top 97.725% of the population.

An IQ of 160 would put you in the 99.997 percentile. I wouldn't take much stock in internet IQ tests, for a number of reasons, which I'll list later. They are pretty fun though.

Forget online IQ tests. They're worthless.

The real question is who's taken the IAT (Implicit Association Tests)?

I took the racist, homophobic, and anti-semitic tests and my results were that I prefer white and straight people but am indifferent about Judaeism.

Yah, when we had an IQ test result topic like half of the Pavilionites were 150+. There are at least two possibilities: 1) potential geniuses are overrepresented here; 2) the tests don't mean too much.
