    hmm...quick question.

what's the most cliched plot you can think of? i swear mine's shaping up to be it...lol

maybe i'll get lucky and pull it off. it's not so much it's a dull story, but i feel like i've played it myself like forty three times.

Sorry for discouraging you in your game topic...

Anyways, I don't remember at all what that topic said, so this can go as some what of a test run to see if your game's too cliche...

Young, male hero from a small town. Starts out with him waking up from bed and his mom telling him he'll be late to go see a girlfriend of his. Main character goes to see her, but an old, wise, sage stops their meeting and tells them that the main character is destined to save the world from the great evil demon lord that will soon be re-awakened, and that in order to defeat the evil demon lord he must collect the 7 elemental crystals scattered around the world at the 7 elemental temples. In the end, the main character trudges his way around the world doing fetchquest after fetchquest, collects the 7 elemental crystals, and uses the power of the crystals, combined with the power of love from his friends and him, and defeats the evil demon lord once and for all.

nah, i'm still somewhat confident about Tsubasa but for once i got another idea that i had to get part done before i totally forgot it. call this new one exile and so far it's nothing like either of those. and no, it's not in any way related to the renovation genesis game of the same name, even if it was totally awesome. you know, now that i think of it i'm not sure i've ever played an RPG Like this. movies and books you better believe it...but i can't recall any RPGs using this plot, in any series.

pretty much the royal family's been wiped out in anything but a bloodless coup. naturally the prince and princess end up having survived. wouldn't have much of a story if no one did. two brothers take them in and in time the wounds heal. then it's decided they're ready to take the throne. only one problem. the guy that killed their family in the first place isn't about to let that happen.

that's pretty much what i got so far. in terms of game stuff i got ten playable characters and i'm just finishing the world maps. may have to split this up into like three parts depending on how the event creation and everything goes. definitely using the storyteller. that function's awesome.

I find that people call anything resembling a fun storyline cliché. Seriously, some elements do get a little old (Saving princesses and such) but if you have a good game to back it up I couldn't care less.

What gets to me is when people try to make complex storylines that fall flat on their faces. You know what's going on when you write it, no one else does. Try to keep that in mine while making your game.

Another bad thing is trying to eliminate every cliché from your game, since a lot of them (Heroes trying to save the world and such) make a good game no matter how many times they're used.

oh i'm not gonna eliminate it, i was just wondering if it seemed too much so. unless it totally sucks i'm gonna do the story i come up with, cliche or not.
i think it could be pretty solid and it could be a rather long game, something i've never been able to do before. maybe breaking my two hour game play limit.

Rescuing the princess from the dragon. Can't get any more cliche than that.

Instead, try rescuing the dragon from the princess.

i got a good one. just finished the intro in the first storyteller. four hours and almost fifty keys. off to a great start, but i'm afraid what i wanna do may be slightly too ambitious. i'm working on it but i wanna make a game where you gotta play it right in order to beat it. you know, add a tiny bit of strategy to it instead of just playing. if i do figure it out this'll most likely be part one since the events may end up being massive. i want you to be able to choose which members do what throughout the game. some will be better suited for certain tasks than others, and the consequences of making a mistake would be most dire. this'll be my second most ambitious game ever.

There's a book called Paperbag Princess (hence where I sort of got the title to my game series) where a princess rescues a prince from a dragon. It was actually a pretty decent book.
