I just spent an hour making a storyteller scene. Then hit the wrong button and it exited out of it. Completely gone.

Yeah that sucks too. I'm trying to re-create the storyteller, but it sucks cause I know the original dialogue was soo much better.
By the way, I did that once in RPGMaker1 with the first game I tried making. The redo ended up being better. So Keep trying I guess.

Don't feel too bad, the first day I got rpg maker I played it 8 hours straight to begin building my game...then I left the power on as I slept got up the next morning and started to work on it once again. I was so caught up creating I didn't notice the storm...I did notice the power going out

That's why you need to write it down on paper before you type it in.
But trying to remember all the backgrounds, character portaits and sound effects, ect. is the hard part.

Remade the scene, some dialogue is better, so cool. It's just that I spent the whole night doing this one scene.
I don't write it on paper Von, I just think up stuff and just write it. The personalities of the characters just come out on thier own.

oh i'll probably slip up on the same grand scale as with that one RPGM1 game i almost made way back when. i was literally putting the finishing touches when i saved over it instead of loading the data. three months of work gone. glad to hear you got it taken care of though. would've been a shame if you just quit like i did with that one.

I've been finding myself hitting the wrong button a lot with this one... not sure why, either. I did repair my old "broken" keyboard (Actually it worked fine on the PS2, when I plug it into the PC it says "Keyboard Error"... I think it's just that computer, I've thrown away two that did the same thing...) so at least putting the text back in isn't as big of a hassle.
Your stories remind me of my friend's RPGM1 tragedy:
We both got RPG Maker the week it came out, we worked so hard to get the money, had to sell a bunch of old games, but we finally got enough (And the guy at FuncoLand forgot to charge us for a copy!) and we both started making games. Now I'm a perfectionist, and every time I learned a better way to do something I started my game over (This game still hasn't been finished...), but he worked on his for months. I think in the end he had over six months worth of work on it, maybe as much as a year, he was using a GameShark and somehow formatted the memory card! The game was almost done too; he hasn't touched RPG Maker since.

When my RPGM2 projects get big and such tragedies would cause me to want to cry, I use a second memory card and back up my data at least once a week (sometimes daily).
I have had my share of losses, but this keeps them from being truly tragic.
Try it yourself!
Peace.

Oh man I know how you feel. I have been thru alot worse. In rpg maker 1 my little bro saved over my rpg data. So all of my 73 hour rpg data, gone.:skeptical :(

Yeah, like Rodak said, making backup copies of your games is a great idea. Because then if something happens, you won't lose as much if you keep your backups updated. It used to be easier with RPGMaker/Dex Drive. But I'd go to the store and pick up a second memory card just for that sole reason. And then when your little cousins or little brothers want to play Playstation, make sure you HIDE your RPGMaker memory cards and keep them in a safe place.
And even if you suffer such tragedies, don't give up. Chances are if you remake your game it'll end up being better.

You could also just buy a MAX drive.
It has lots of storage and also acts as the most popular file transfer tool so it would do double duty. Plus, you will need a file transfer device to share your game or play other people's games.
Peace.
Or, if you have a PSP, use Get Connected! to transfer and backup the files.

I had 3 projects that I had to redo completely.
the first was some 80% done, and it deleted from my max drive issue.
the second one was 60% done, and it deleted from the same thing as #1
third was too buggy, and had to delete and start from scratch, it was only like 5% though, but still, it was hard making that 5%; they were complex scripts (rpgm2).

Heh...I feel for ya man. Once I spent over an hour making a side quest. I got all the events and variables just perfect. I tested my game out numerous times to see if I got it right. And then.....power went out. Lost all the work I did. I still haven't put the quest back into my game, but I might later on, when I gain interest with it again.

I would still back up to a second memory card though, my MAX drive killed my cheap 3rd party memory card, I don't know if it was the MAX drive or the card.

Actually, I use (and suggest you use) a second memory card for that very reason.
I have never had a problem with my max drive, but I use it only as suggested by Valkysas here:
http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1155
I ignore the other features.
It was just thrown out there as a suggestion for those brave enough to risk it.
Peace.

Now I'm a perfectionist, and every time I learned a better way to do something I started my game over (This game still hasn't been finished...)One reason Slayers' Reign still hasn't been finished. At least the first four or five attempts. The attempt after that, I was moving to another project and decided I didn't like what I had so far, so I deleted it. Later on, I deleted its backup data (actually it was data I was using to test the system data trick) and didn't realize that I wound up deleting something that I was actually interested in getting back to.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh! One more story. Power just went out for a minute. Only 4 hours lost, but I lost 40 skills, with lengthy descriptions. Now back I go.
