How do screenshot's work?

This is a question that has been bugging me for some time. You see, I have a scene in my RPGM3 field map with a sword in a stone and with the right weather conditions, I made it look awesome. I was wondering if there was an easier way then just taking a photo of your T.V.

I use a Video capture card to connect my PS2 to my PC and use DScaler to get the images.
