I'm new to RPGM, I just bought RPGM3. So far, I love this game, but it's a lot to take in at first. Anybody have any tips on where to start making my game? So far I have two characters, a world map, town map, and an introduction storyteller. Any ideas?

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
In order to streamline the process a bit, make some people first (townspeople and such) since you can't place them until you've registered them in the People editor. Then make a town and place some buidlings. Then you can do everything else right from the Layout editor. Popping out to make any additional characters, monsters, and items you need as you go along.I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
Write a brief outline of your gameplay. doesn't even have to be finished yet. Something like, Player will start with PC tom looking for the magic ring in town X, when they find it, they need to take it to the king in town Y, then go to the lava cave to find another one, then... etc.
This will give you an idea of what to create first--a town, the king, a ring item, etc.

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
Get your story together first. Picture what you want to do and it will be easier. Things I like to do in order:
- Make the field map first.
-Create the first town, place it on the Field map.
-Create the buildings and general overview of the town.
-Create events that will happen inside the town
-Add various non-story events like people.
Oh course there are other things you should do to like make the main character, items and equipment. (I mainly make items when they first appear in the game and them add them to shops and stuff.) The main thing is that you work on it, improve things each day. It doesn't have to be cohesive all at once. Remember there is alot of things you can do and focus on. Try not to let the scope of the application overwhelm you. If you practice doing things little by little it will start to make sense and stuff will start to come together.

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
Can anyone help me with this? I just bought the game and all though it is over all better than the first two, it seems to lack somewhat in skill variety. is there something I am missing or is the fifty somethings skills are everything I have to work with? that and I cant seem to find the option to work on the interior of the shops and buildings...??? am I just missing something obvious?

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
I'm not sure about the skills, but from my experience the past several days with building interiors is that you can place decorative objects and people, but you can't change anything that is preset in that interior. For instance, you can't move the main desk in a weapons shop, or the beds in an inn. But if there is a way around this, I would like to know as well.
Also, I have two more questions:
1) should I even bother screwing around with that "Dear Braveheart" game? While it does show you a few of the features you can use, it seems kind of dull.
2) How do I place a storyteller event into my story? I have a prelude to my story, but can't figure out how to make the game start with it. If that makes sense.damn eskimos and their...penguins...

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
The first thing you need to do is get a small outline of how the game is going to go and the history of the world your creating. Once you have an outline I suggest you make a new draft of the outline and put in even greater detail.(Attempt to make it twice as long)
Then write down all the different classes your going to need for special characters(boss chars or gamer chars) also don't forget your probably want to make character battles vs soldier classses, barbarians, ect...
Next go over your may characters one more time and try to figure out their character (personality...etc)
Once your done with that, fool around with the editor for a while and get use to the controls, events, and particularly the variable system and how to tie in events.
Next start making class for the different characters in your game but don't give them skills or magic unless their level 1-4.(you'll come back later)
Next start making items and think about what type of ratio your going to be wanting because you only get to make three hundred items. At first this may seem like alot but if you 11 characters that each use a different weapon and you want at least eleven different weapons for each character your already looking at 121 weapons. Which is over a third of your inventory. Also you need to think of how the weapons are going to effect gameplay and who the weapons are for. Keep in mind you'll probably want to make event/interval/mode items.
Next Build all your monsters I found this to be the easiest of assignments.
Next start building the world map and towns.
Start your story teller and give a end game thingy.
Your second to last... and most difficult job is to start placing people and events once events are in place they must be tested. Then do some trouble shooting
Finally start going through your rpg and start balancing levels/exp/$$

Re: New to RPGM(3)-Getting started?
thanks for the replies
. another question though:
Is there an easier way to balance levels, damage, experience, etc., other than guess and check? Seems like that process would take at least a week, and a grueling one at that.damn eskimos and their...penguins...

1) There's not much reason to mess with Dear BraveHeart unless you just want to for some reason. There's enough premade samples to fool around with when you're just getting to learn things.Originally posted by writersblocksucksI'm not sure about the skills, but from my experience the past several days with building interiors is that you can place decorative objects and people, but you can't change anything that is preset in that interior.
