    Episodic Game releases

So I have to know.. How do you all feel about people releasing their RPGs in episodes... or chapters. Or would you rather someone push for the whole adventure in one upload?

if the memory fits, I'd rather have the whole upload. Why? because I dont like deleting stuff for room to play games multiple times, it kinda aggrevates me.
    I love lamp.

the way i see it it all depends on how the thing is gonna be. if it's only like an hour long game, it is very annoying. but if you're going for a big, long three day epic, it's pretty much the only way. all depends on the grand scale of the project itself.

Every release will be a self contained story, but I will have numbered chronicles that will merge into an epic storyline. I hope.

good luck with that. i'd personally only do that if the story was too long to tell in one game, AKA i ran out of space on the memory card before i was done.

I am working a episodic series, but they won't really have much to do with eachother. Actually, they will barely have anything in common.

I remember asking this question myself a long time ago. Got pretty much the same responses, and I have to agree. Don't split the game into multiple parts unless it's too big for one game. Too big would either be "running out of memory" big (except in RPGM1's case) or "Nobody's going to want to play a 50-hour RPGM1/2/3 game" big.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

If no one wants to play it, then so be it. I don't really know how big, or how long it is going to be...

I'm definately not shooting for a RPG that I can design in a week or two and release.

never said i wouldn't give it a try. i've learned to give almost every game a try 'cause you never know which ones will be truly spectacular.

                    Re: Episodic Game releases

I was thinking about doing something a little like that. The main inspiration was D&D modules. I figured I would have some parts for more experienced chasracters, while others would be for less experienced characters. So you get maybe 3-4 Lv. 1 modules, and move on from there.

I would only do it if there was actually a way to transfer save files from game to game, like with the previous two.

I'd personally say just make the whole thing up front, just post it at different states of completion as a demo.

It's probably a very good idea. RPGM3 eats up memory quick!

yeah i noticed that. this one may have to be a two or three parter depending on how much it keeps growing.
