    I'M TORN

I Can't decide, RPG Maker 3, or RPG Maker XP.

I've weighed the pros and cons, but after seeing the graphix list for RPGM3, it's a tie.

RPG maker 3 would be more expsensive for me, since I need a new memory card and would like to use a keyboard, but I think it looks real simple, and graphicly(while not amazing) better than any RPG Maker before it.

RPG Maker XP is more powerful, but I suck with computers, and I don't know how much downloading or coding I'd need to do to get the right menu and battle system, plus, not that I have anything against them(in fact, I usually prefer them) it's 2D, and for the PC.

    Please help!

i'd go with three. unless you got the skills, the PC ones aren't that great.

even if three does seem to be mildly cursed...
the legends have returned...whenever i can finish these, lol.

        Re: I'M TORN

I was just going to suggest RPGMaker2, but...

I posted this in a similar, but buried, thread.

Here it is again for your enlightenment.

I have had a hard time with both Xp and 3 (only 2 dimensions and camera limitations in XP and the whole dearth of limitations in 3) but I will be buying 3 first because I view the question differently.

It is not so much which game I think is better, it is that I would rather support Agetec than Enterbrain (Enterbrain is not sharing the marketing of XP with Agetec). While I realize that we could never have RPGMakers at all if not for Enterbrain, we would not have them in English if not for Agetec.

I plan on buying both eventually, but XP comes second for that reason alone.

RPGMaker 2 spoiled me. I know I'll get over it. Eventually. But I am not yet over it and probably wil not be over it until I have had both for a while and seen just what is possible.

        But to answer your question...

        3.

        Peace.

        MOO!

If you are new to RPG Maker's in general, I would suggest you get RPGM3, especially if your computer skills are not that good. RPGM3 looks better and is designed to be easy to use (although some people have had some problems with it). RPGMXP has an easy mode for people who don't want to learn the scripting language but that just limits what XP can do.

If you had good computer skills, I would suggest using XP and then you could learn to expand your game as your skills got better. For someone what just wants to make a game, RPGM3 is the better choice.

I say RMXP. It's 2D, you can put in custom ANYTHING, and even the easy editor can do things that RPGM3 can't.

            Although I'm getting both.

Do you have any specific ideas about what you want to make, including the type of system you want to implement?

If the answer is yes, you may want to check out XP, because it's graphically and musically more customizable (Never mind that you can do tons of things that you can't do in 3 w/o touching the RGSS code). Plus you can learn RGSS code in your spare time and possibly make a few changes to the engine if you like. It also seems to be a little easier than 3 in some ways.

If you have no specific ideas and you are willing to deal with graphical limitations in favor of a better looking game, then go for RPGM3.

They're both decent pieces of software, but they are also radically different.

XP is best suited for people who want lots of customizability, and don't mind having to use 2D graphics. 3 seems best suited for D&D style games with lots of beautiful graphics, mainly due to the dungeon editor, though any other kind of RPG can be made with it.
