ok.. here's the point of this one.

i am dumb and could never do anything with rpg maker 1 (although im 21 now and therefore more intelligent about this kinda stuff). im not good with following directions i guess. im a journalism major, not an engineer.

anywho.. before i go out and get a debit card from my bank and buy this game.. i wanted to know what people think of it so far.

so. talk.

I love it, to me it's like putting a giant puzzle together except the final image is in my head. So far a made a little town, a pathway through some grasslands, and a character, a monster, and one attack animation. I get so many ideas for my game that i get overwhelmed to which I then force myself to simplify otherwords I'll never get anything done.

I like it better than RPGM1 mainly because it's on the computer which makes it easier to layout the tiles, but also because I have total flexablity to do whatever I want to do in the game.

You get a 30 day trial, so just download and pay for it if you like it.

I don't, and I've been stumbling through it. I wish I could download a sample game to see how some stuff is done.

You download it off www.downloads.com, just do a search for "rpg maker xp" and you should find it.

Edit: Oh wait, I think you meant something else...

I own a copy of the Japanese game. It's awesome. Probably its biggest downfall is that the game runs almost as if it's using RPGM2's Apply Together command all the time. Which means, you always have to use a wait command with your movement commands (otherwise the next command will happen the moment the person starts moving), and getting the timing down for those is a little difficult. It also has no default vehicle commands, nor does it have a default world map tileset. Map creation seems a little more daunting than it did in RPGM1. Easy to do with the mouse, but you're worried about putting things on multiple layers of the map, where in RPGM1 all you had to worry about was the ground and the objects on the ground, and making sure those objects don't overlap each other.

yeah.. it took me forever to realize that you cant put something from the snowy tileset into the grasslands tileset.. that set me back about 2 days haha

Personally, I think XP is easier in quite a few ways than RPGM1. For instance, you can command all events to move from one event, rather than having to jump from one event to another.

Even without touching Ruby you can do quite a few things you can't do in RPGM 1 & 3.

You can also tell more than one event to move at the same time without them having to be exact duplicates of each other.:thumbs

Which you could do in RPGM2, but it's easier here.
